And it was played on a ploughed field as well...

West Ham had the same amount of rest, having played a far more competitive game than ours. I'm not having that as an excuse. they are also blighted by injuries and have several key players missing. No excuses for not winning tonight.

Yes they defended heroically, but it shouldn't have been a factor. We were sloppy and a couple of times we did our usual trick of fucking about with it at the back for no reason and gifted them a chance that fortunately for us, they were too shit to capitalise on.

Dier & Sissoko aren't to blame per se, but neither were required tonight and it was plain to see at HT. we needed someone to carry the ball through midfield and allow Alli, Eriksen and Son to do their thing in the right areas. Seemed like Eriksen kept dropping deep to do the job Sissoko should have been doing, but instead he was playing as a right back for 90% of the game.

The way folks are going on, you'd have thought we lost ...

Couple that with the Transfer thread ...

I wonder how bothered Levy is about getting Top 4, if we don't strengthen in January it makes me think he's really not bothered. Which would surprise me as I would've thought moving into a new stadium and dropping out of CL would be potentially very bad. Financially we'd have a big reduction on this year and sponsorship wise surely you'd get a much better deal if the club is seen as a CL club rather than Europa. That's ignoring what might happen to current players if not in CL.

For a great businessman like him surely it makes more sense spending now to enhance chances of top 4 rather than waiting till summer when we'll likely be in Europa nightmare again.
He doesn’t care as along as we all keep paying the bucks why should he give a toss.

Agree Poch didn’t pick right team (mainly Sissoko on right ) or subs tonight but still doing a great job :p

My final point as the Havana Club has kicked in is Eriksen. He can bang them in from 25 yds against Ireland but doesn’t want to have a pop.
Why?

Just got back.

Should it have been a pen at the end?

Can anyone confirm this? It feels like mike dean was to scared to give a penalty after the gooner situation.

Also if a 70mill pound bid came in for eric dier what are we losing here? I dont see anything more than a glorified utility player who constantly plays the ball back to loris

Well. He did have a couple of pops, but to answer the question Eriksen is THE GUY for Denmark. At Spurs his primary job is to get it to Kane or Alli or Son - and if he didn't do that he'd not be as good a player as he is for us.

It's a frustrating result but we can't start actively encouraging our creative players to selfishly go for goal as their first instinct

Got home a little while ago and had time to calm down and reflect a little.

I really do think we played some good football for the first thirty minutes. There was some great movement as we played almost exclusively in their half. We created chances and were inventive at times but things would just not fall right or they blocked stoically. The second balf did need a change of plan and we failed to do that until they scored. I am assuming Dembele is not really fit, Wanyama not considered fit to start yet ... but I suspect might on Sunday ... and maybe Winks is not fully ready to start. having said that they were all on the bench and so could have been used earlier.

As for West Ham all I can say is that they defended for their lives, had the rub of the green that we enjoyed against Swanse and made Barnsley look like a good side. I hate teams parking the bus against us but everyone has to make the most of the resources they have and stopping teams play is so much easier than attacking. This was far from our worst performance but we seemed out of luck, but I will watch the recorded game to see what I may have missed.

Disappointed sure but at least we picked up 10 points from these last four games.

We were far better in this game than against bus parkers earlier in the season IMO, especially in the first half. Much better press, tempo and movement. We were unlucky I think and Mike Dean is a terrible, terrible ref. We have no luck in penalty situations this season - we just don't seem to even get the most blatant ones even so far.

Just remembered Poch did late sub again against Citeh and took out Son when Trippier was obviously incompetent that night.

In-game management is becoming an issue for him this season. Who knows how points had he actually lost due to his stubbornness.. Jeez

City do have better quality players, that makes a lot of difference, but I go back to attacking structures and patterns of play..... They also do this better, quite a lot better. If player A is dropping off for instance then player B is running in behind, or if one has come inside the other takes the space vacated on the outside etc etc.

That's a tactical thing and down to coaching and drilling the awareness and pattern play into the players. They just have better structures to fall back on. This is definitely where, in my opinion, we need to evolve our game.

This.
Son playing in the same position as Sane never once made a run in behind Zabaletta and Reid . No one with the ball in front of the penalty area is looking for that run. Man City constantly break down teams behind the ball because De Bruyne, Silva etc are looking for those runs and Sane, Stirling Jesus. Agurero etc keep making those runs in behind. We don't look like we've even considered it as a possibility which I find very worrying.

Should have gone to bed but watched the game over on TV now. Even more certain that we played some good football. Nothing went for us and clearly every knows that including West Ham. Loved how Poch gives no excuses, does not moan at the ref but states what we know and that is they were just not effective at converting the 31 shots into goals.

I will say what I always say , Sissoko is a waste, 31 Chances, Having Harry Kane, Sons wonder strike, MP giving good press conferences, Cmon none of that even Matters if we start Sissoko that is starting a man down every game, Sissoko IDC how he trains you can see on the Pitch he is not up for it and he does not belong on any side aspiring to be in the Top 4 , we spent 30 on a Joke of a Footballer and he does just enough to get in a run of games.

HE IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH

And if MP Feels the need to pick him over a player like Lamela, expect more 1-1 vs mediocre opposition because West Ham Mediocre Club.

TBH, I don't really blame Sissoko and Dier, especially the latter. There was only so much they could do with 10 players in front of them to pass through. Dembele would have been great with either one of them to weave through some players and open some spaces behind for Kane or Dele to capitalise.

We could play with no DM and those fuckers could still not score without a wonder strike or hitting the targets much.

Really wrong personnel for the wrong the match. By 30th minute, it should be clear enough for Poch to understand and rectify, not damn 70th+ minute.

If Poch had so much feelings to content with regarding players being subbed out, he has alot to do in coming across to those players that the subs are tactical and need for the best of the team. Professionally, not even any tinge of personal feelings should be involved at all. There are no bad players, just unsuitable ones.
