Good to see the Transfer Thread back with a bang!
Like the rest of us, I want us to secure targets as early as possible. To me, the reality of doing that would mean either getting a deal done in January with a loan back, or getting a deal done that can be completed when the window opens on 1 July.
If Levy doesn't do that for Poch this year then he frankly doesn't deserve him. He's spent far too many summers pissing around until the end of August and you can see Poch is frustrated by that.
However, regarding Ross Barkley I don't understand the reaction. I mean, it's Ross Barkley...
As is the case with many players who are either injured for a long time or involved in some lengthy protracted transfer, he has taken on some sort of mythical saviour-like status and the reality would be much more mundane. IMO, he'd have been a fair to decent option for our squad but not a lot more than that.
If you add the fact that he's clearly had a very serious operation on his hamstring which - for a player who relies on explosive bursts - seems like an accident waiting to happen, and we aren't Chelsea. We sign players to actually make a meaningful contribution to the team.
If in 2 months time the hamstring goes again and he's out for another year then Chelsea can just write it off and pay £50m on another back-up. Because they have a Russian billionaire in charge.
If we miss out on Ryan Sessegnon I'd be a lot more gutted.
