I don't. We weren't willing to take the risk on him it seems. Deals often collapse. I'm sure Barkley realises this, he's an adult. Us not signing Ross Barkley isn't the end of the world.

You don't?
You didn't complain when Willian and Hazard chose chelsea over us then. That's a first

Deals often collapse, but during a same window, and without making a player sacrifice things like we did. It speaks volumes about how we deal with transfers. No wonder every fucking chairman hates us. I'm sure Kenwright is ectstatic with us, given that we made them lose 20m and 6 extra months of wages and treatment

Don’t understand any of it, we’re short of homegrown and I know that shouldn’t be the only reason to get a player but he was also cheap at £15million. If he just chose them over us that’s life so hope it’s not sour grapes that we’re saying Poch changed his mind.

Don’t know why we are surprised Spurs never act like a big club. If Barkley was being offered for a £1 we would strill try and drive the price down. I’m on a football whatsapp Group with friends who support various clubs and everyone expects Spurs to return to 5th 6th within a season or two. We never invest properly or show intent totally deflated... feels like we peaked last season to be honest..

What about the state of the art training ground? or all the money invested in the academy, which has produced a world class player like Kane, not to mention players with huge potential like Winks and Edwards.

Or what about all the money spent on Sanchez, who at 21 already looks like a top class player. The new stadium is also a massive investment that will allow us to compete (financially) on better terms with the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool.

The investment is there for all to see.

Actually no we aren’t, great PR from Levy but we are spending £450m on the stadium, the other £550m is being spent on the hotel and house development. Even with the £450m I would think that about £50-100m is due to the NFL dimension to the stadium, the cost of the retractable pitch and associated works is huge.

The owners aren’t funding the stadium, they are going to rely on naming rights and securitisation of gate receipts, which will be the highest in the country. I’m not saying they have any requirement to put their hands in the pocket but let’s not laud them for investing anything other than what is effectively our money as the customers of the business.

I will go out on a limb here and say that the benevolent / forgiving mood among large parts of the fanbase with respect to Levy/ENIC will change dramatically when season ticket renewals come out and people see the price hikes. By way of example the announced prices for the 6,000 premium seats are 50-75% higher than at The Emirates, if anyone thinks that the premium seats will be subsidising the regular seats then dream on, i’ll bet anyone that our regular seats will be the most expensive in the country.

This. The new stadium has one main beneficiary - ENIC. The fans and the club itself are paying through the nose for the privilege. It better be worth it long term...

Previous Chelsea purchases of young English talent.

Glenn Johnson - signed at 18, sold to Portsmouth
Wayne Bridge - sat on the bench watching Ashley Cole each weekend
Scott Parker - signed aged 22, barely played and had to leave to get his career back on track
Shaun Wright Phillips signed aged 23 - 3 years wasted, lost his England place, sold back to City never fulfilled his potential
Steve Sidwell - one of the weirdest signings they've made
Scott Sinclair - another huge talent that was wasted and now playing league 2 football with Celtic
Daniel Sturridge - 19, had to leave to get games
Danny Drinkwater - unlikely to get more than 5 games a season

Of course they've had some success with young English purchases:

Lampard
Ashley Cole
Joe Cole? - could've been much better had he gone to the right club
Cahill? - plays a lot and has won plenty of trophies.

Will Ross be the new Lampard or the next Scott Sinclair. Either way, he'll be very wealthy and that might be the only thing that matters to him.

I can see why you can’t, it would be an itk posting it and it’s about RB. I’m eager to read what they have said about him:)

This isn't an ITK thread so I can't see why this can't be posted from GrandOldTeam:

The lad has had a grade 2 hamstring tear with complications - he will never be the player he could have become. We are well rid of him.

Avulsed hamstring was what I heard, I had to look it up! Apparently the rate of complications and re- ruptures is very high though so may never stay fully fit.

If accurate then I can see why we wanted him for nothing. Imagine if we paid 30m and he pulled up in his first few games. We'd be back at square one.

I'm saying this as someone who really wanted him.

Rumours around those parts are he’s in trouble and needs to leave the north west. He was attacked in a club because of something that happened previously and its likely to escalate further if he were to stay.

Probably knocked someones sister up, or questioned why liverpool dont commemorate the heysel disaster.

Joe Anderson‏ @mayor_anderson
The move of @RBarkley20 from .@Everton to Chelsea today for £15 million after not playing one minute this season & after his Agent pulled the deal for £35 million in the summer, is a smack in the face to Everton fans who have always supported him loyally.

Worth remembering that what was posted on Everton forums isn't ITK either.

Decent, but isn’t going to win us big matches.
Every other top side including Liverpool have far greater options. Winks wouldn’t be anywhere near any of those sides.
In central midfield? I don't think so.

Henderson, Wijnaldum and Can are not much better than Winks right now, if at all, and Winks has a much higher ceiling than all of them.

He would also walk into Arsenal's midfield. Xhaka and Ramsey are average as fuck and Winks is on a par with Wilshere. Coquelin still gets a game FFS.

Bakayoko is shit, and Drinkwater has played in the last few games. I'd take Winks over both.

In any case, central midfielders don't 'win you big matches' unless they're like peak Fabregas or Modric or someone like that. They're the glue that holds things together, whether it be the defensive side (Wanyama/Dier) or the transition from defence to attack, like Winks and Dembele. In fact, I would have liked to sign Barkley, but I would still prefer to play Winks in CM over him, he's fart too careless with the ball and not defensively diligent enough. He would have been a great fit for our front 4 though.

Never wanted him, don't rate him much at all. Idea he could replace Dembele and be our future starting CM in a team with apparent aspirations of winning the league was laughable to me. That being said I could see how much of an upgrade he'd have been on Sissoko and therefore would have improved the dreadful options we have in reserve. We can't afford to wait until the summer. Most fans talk about this pacey dribbler we need but personally I think a CM is massively important now. Dembele seems crocked and Winks has been having injury problems this season, we need to sign a quality CM who can move the ball quickly and precisely, games like yesterday were crying out for someone with that ability.

Latest ITK says Levy was willing to pay his wage demands, demands above Kane. Poch said no.
