this is the key bit......

"Poch didn't want to set a precedent or upset the squad dynamic"

From the everton forums and bits we've seen today i'm with tiger, bullet dodged. Sounds like rb has ended up in the most apt club. By all means we need to freshen the squad but not at a cost to the overall dynamic. Lets get rs sorted and move on.

He went public in the summer to deny stories of ridiculous wage demands so it seems strange to suggest that he is demanding more now, I don't believe that at all unless his people have asked us to match something Chelsea are offering.
I have no trouble believing Poch would turn down the offer of a player if he didn't want them though, I'm also sure he would have another one in mind though.

Far be it from me to tell anyone how to share information - but for future reference - when you have information that you are not going to share with the public, please just don't mention it at all...none of this "I know something, but I am not going to tell you" stuff. It just leads to endless speculation, and needless rumor mongering. See, Lamela thread for what happens when people go off on a rumour expedition...

I would rather it still gets posted, even though we don't know what it might be it gives us more of an insight and something to discuss in spells where itk is sparse such as last summer.

Also what @dovahkiin whored from hertyid may well tie up and be what @Hercules was alluding to and is now suddenly bloody relevant.

Or maybe he knows how serious his injury is and he needs to pull in as much money as possible while he can.

Levy will love Poch even more seeing Poch is ready to guard his purse.

I may be naive, but a transfer doesn't mean the new team takes on the old contract does it? I am pretty sure that in European football that is not the case. In the NBA a traded players contract follows them, but I swear a transfer is just the fee to get the player released from their current contract and then the player goes into negotiations with the new club.

If my memory serves me correct, why do people think Bale = 350 a week? He does at RM, but if he were to come here he would know that we can't pay him that sum. Same goes for Modric. It's the upfront fee that we may need to worry about, but these contractual weekly payments are yet to be determined.

I very well could be wrong, but I believe this is the case. Let me know if I am wrong.

To answer your question, no it's not like in America. Once you sign for a new club you get a brand new contract with that club, you don't carry over your previous contract. HOWEVER, that being said, obviously if someone is already earning X amount, they're usually not keen to take a paycut so often you'll have to match or better their existing contract, but it's not set in stone like it is in the US and the remaining validity period of their old contract is irrelevant.

Seems like having achieved or over achieved 3rd then 2nd, now we are happy to drop out of the top four meekly and mildly without the fight and impetus that an ambitious signing could give us.

Seriously mate why on earth would anybody at the club be "happy to drop out of the top 4"? That doesn't make any sense whatsoever. If you hate Levy/ENIC etc. in general then you're obviously entitled to that opinion, but surely you can't genuinely believe that he doesn't care if we don't get CL qualification? It's absolutely essential to everything they've been building towards since they took over for Christ's sake.

keeping kane and toby is more important than signing barkley imo
It would be but so far the info we have had it seems that Toby will be off due to at his age wanting to win things etc, so I hope both get tied down to long term deals but believe only one will stay.

Assuming the player from Watford is Richarlison and not a re-signing of Gomes/Kaboul, I'd be a little bit underwhelmed. He's got potential, but not exactly a Salah type, is he. Be interesting to see what his price tag is.

Every time I've seen him he missed at least one glorious chance per game. Slightly worrying.

There are diplomatic reasons why we share different pieces. You all need to understand that we cannot compromise our sources. Moreso, we honestly have the best governors on this site, and we abide by the rules. Hopefully you understand now.

Moreso.......is he Brazilian?

If that latest ITK is correct Levy must have a pillow with Poch’s face on it that he cuddles every night.

So we thought we was keeping the number 8 shirt for RB, really it was a decoy for the summer. Lamela getting his Roma number 8, and bale gets the 11 shirt. Cleverly done spurs.

Did they say we wouldn't do any business, or that there wouldn't be any incoming players in January? I'm sure Poch mentioned that we might need to agree deals for players that come in next summer.

Ok see what you mean, hopefully that’s the case.

Can certainly live with the Hertyid ITK. If we can get close to parity with Liverpool and Arsenal on wages this year we should be able to consolidate as a regular contender.

I personally would rather we got at least one player in now to freshen things up however, a pacey/tricky attacker or ball playing CM.

Wrapping up new deals for Kane and Toby and getting Sessegnon signed for summer would still be amazing business however, and the squad has just been boosted by the returns of Wanyama, Rose and Lamela.

Does sound a bit Levy favouring though, @Trix had a great source on RB and seemed to suggest it was all injury related and we had no intention of moving for him this window.
Hercules update suggested that new info came to light. Perhaps Barkley' s agent suddenly demanded more salary, due to Chelsea offering more (we know what they are like when competing for players) and this was the new info. Could be many things I suppose but just trying to piece it all together.
New info being his penchant for bars/clubs and his ability to get knocked out!?? Lol...

hertyid on ross:
Just got a text about this. His wage demands would have put him ahead of Kane. Levy was prepared to pay it as wages structure will be shifting higher from the summer, but Poch didn't want to set a precedent or upset the squad dynamic. Also big concerns over injury and how much he would play this season.

First time ever Levy has opened his wallet and been shunned?
So, despite "big concerns" over Barclay's injury, not only did Levy still want to sign him, but even wanted to make him the club's highest earner! But Poch, who according to Hercules "wants RB badly, against any ‘wait until summer Ross’" was the one who vetoed the move. Interesting . Think it's safest to take Mr. Stoof's advice and file this under "take it all with a pinch of salt". I just hope Levy takes this new-found spirit of generosity into contract negotiations with Toby. Perhaps the money that Poch has allegedly saved him on Barclay can now be spent on paying Toby his market value.

Not end of the world losing out on Barkley. I do think we wanted him to sign for the sake of a signing. Before he was injured he was very inconsistent, gave away possession a lot, was woeful for England. He wasn’t Evertons saviour and he wouldn’t of been ours. I’m convinced if we had signed him we’d be facing another sissoko situation.
