Thanks Gb! I could write the exact same post about you buddy. Take good care mate!

Could you two pop over to the Same old problems thread? It could do with some sanity

Also can’t blame RB for chasing the money, he’s just had a potentially career ending (certainly limiting) injury so if he can get a big contract from Chelsea on double the money that sets him up for life.

Think he’ll be their new Joe Cole I.e. a “what could have been” type of player.

Well put - forgot about Joe Cole but if RB's injury becomes recurring then your spot on. Chelsea have always had the budget to take a chance on this (Demba Ba and Loic Remy come to mind) but we don't.

If we're looking for a new Dembele then its probably best to replace his talents not his injury record.

He could turn out to be injury free and brilliant but I can see the point in us being cautious

If we wanted RB even now, we could of got him. Medically it is a MASSIVE risk, and another factor, which I will not disclose. Close that chapter now please.

Sounds like a Demba Ba scenario. A guy who has a serious long term cloud over him, who we wouldn't/couldn't justify the risk, but Chelsea couldn't care less.

Let's just crack on I say. I like the long term vision we have, and won't get hung up on us missing out on RB. Find someone better, or place faith in our own, either way works for me.

Very pleased by the positivity surround the Sessegnon twins.

Pochettino talks about Barkley in his book and how he showed a lack of respect when he celebrated his goal before scoring against Bournemouth in Feb 2017. He speaks in depth about the importance of what players are like as people (their mental attitude) as much as their skills as footballers when considering to sign them. Reading that is at odds with Barkley becoming his number 1 transfer target 6 months later.

I would recommend the book to those who on here who talk about Poch leaving if he is not backed in the transfer market. It is hardly a literary masterpiece but he discusses how big money signings can upset the balance of the team, it is more difficult to leave them on the bench and how academy players bring more desire to win.

It would certainly make for a more informed transfers tread. Imagine that!

I have read the book. Poch is certainly not an idiot. If you really believe that ‘if he isn’t backed the way he wants’ that he won’t walk, you are in cloud cockoo land o_O

Promising to hear that Poch will be backed. I'm sure Levy will understand he's ambitious and considering he said he'd like to keep him around for the next 15 years, he sounds like he wants to keep him sweet.

Maybe it's just my pessimism but I can't imagine us having a big spend up without selling a few big names first. Goes against everything we've seen for years now

When was the last time you saw Spurs build a new stadium or pay a player £200k p/w? Times are a changin my friend.

hertyid:
Kane will sign. Not sure about Toby.
Not too annoyed by the bit about Toby. He's still got another two and a half years left on his contract. If he sees in the season at NWHL and we still haven't won a trophy i wouldn't begrudge him leaving for another club who are more likely to win stuff. By that point, he'll have played four years for us, and considering he's one of the best CBs in the world, that's a pretty good return in terms of years played for a player of his calibre

Imo the club are probably pretty chilled about Toby. The earliest he will leave us is 18 months when he will be 30 and worst case we get £25m(buy out)probably £10-15m under market value for a 30 yr old. Certainly not ideal but for me in no way a disaster.

You've been posting some sensible stuff of late. What have you done with the real coys200?

That stadium still costs £700m+. Unless a huge investor comes in that we dont know about, i think we should temper expectations on the players we sign.

I believe that cost is the entire project, including land purchase (which has been paid for), we already paid back a £200m loan (didn't we?). We're not getting £700m+ dropped on us after the stadium is completed, it'll more likely be around 1/2 that spread over a number of years

I'm against selling him (to another PL team) this summer if he doesn't sign a new contract. I'd rather just let someone pay his buyout when he's 30 the following summer.

Especially considering what we paid for him.

Agree re Toby, not surprising he doesn't want to sign a new contract. He is one of the best defenders in the world and its understandable he wants to win something. Im sure he would prefer to win something with us but if we can't offer him that opportunity during the years he has left then why should he stay. As long as he doesn't go to City or Utd, or any Pl club I would be understanding if he left... It would such balls... But such is the life.
