Thanks Herc.

I'm astounded how Real are playing trying to get Kane. We have the first refusal on Bale (if we wanted him) so they can't think we're stupid enough to allow him to form part of a makeweight deal for Kane but they're going to need to sell to generate the revenue to even think about bidding for him.
I'm not surprised at all. Real are used to getting their own way and I bet they use every trick in the book to get who they want.

Big surprise eh?
Summer eh?
Abroad eh?

So that gives us around 7 months or so of frantic guessing and second guessing who this surprise is gonna be.

I like that a few people have mentioned that we want to make a statement this summer. Very interesting to see how it plays out.

Heard it a million times though haven't we. I reckon we will have more of a shock because someone left rather then someone we signed.
Especially if we are back in the Europa

I'm not too worried about Kane to RM. They can't afford him. Plus I doubt Bale would give him a glowing report.

I'd be more worried about City or United tbh.

Bit of a shame really. Can't see the current team making top 4 with their inability to break teams down. Oh well. I think gomes or suarez really would have helped move the ball faster in the middle of the pitch and a winger who can beat players seems pretty important too.

Neither do I. But it's the same old story really, feels like we've more or less had the same team for a couple of years now. Albeit a very good one, but one that also has it's shortcomings that could have been addressed in a number of windows now. I too think we need to add to what we have for the remainder of the season but if not we finally need to push hard in the market for top quality in the summer, the type that would be really making a statement. Which like I've always said, is not only important for the success of the team but for the morale of the current players too.

Really don't want it to become a case of looking back and feeling regret at not sufficiently building on what we currently have within the team but also can't help but feel it would be typical if that were to happen.

Kane is not going anywhere for atleast 2 seasons IMO. He is the player I am least worried about. Toby is the worrisome one - am hoping we will do the deal to keep him longterm

On the contrary , I am quite optimistic. I dont think a single signing in Jan will guarantee us top4, unless we splash the cash on some world class signing (which won't happen in Jan)

I don't imagine Bale is too upset with his three Champions League winner medals.

I'm not too concerned on the Toby front. Bottom line is we can activate an additional year in 1 year's time and the offer at the moment i presume is to ensure he maximises his earnings between now and (in theory) the end of that contract.

If he's not happy for any reason we'll do similar to what we did with the likes of Modric and ensure he does well enough for us until a mutually agreeable move and fee can be set-up in due course but from my perspective i think we're at least a year away from that problem.

And that extension activates a £20m minimum fee release clause. If VVD is £75m then the best defender in the EPL for the past 3 years is worth significantly more than £20m even with a contract running down.

There are no guarantees, but it might improve the odds somewhat. My issue with us is we seem to try and get away with the bare minimum re transfers, to the point where even when we do perform well the payoff is never fully satisfying, our ceiling just isn't high enough. If we can avoid any serious injuries for the rest of the season then we probably are ok - Wanyama and Lamela have brought some depth back - but the same can be said for every other team also.

Wanyama certainly is like a new signing for 2nd half of season, so will be Toby after a long injury layoff. Its in defense we have gone back from last season. I generally agree with you on transfer front. We do the bare minimum in summer & in winter window we dont even do that. While we can all shout & scream about it, history suggests we wont do anything unfortunately.

All ITKs till now, also singing same tune - no big transfer now. Even the ITK talks about summer moves....We got to bite the bullet and endure the pain till summer. Unless some useless club tries to buy Sissoko this window, I cant see any incoming

If I have understood Hercules correctly no deal with Fulham for Sessegon ? We’ll miss the boat if true.

This is what @Hercules has previously said on this situation

“RS, we have verbal agreement in place for summer. We want to deal now, and take him, with his brother staying until summer. Fulham want him (RS) to stay and push for possible play-offs. We want him (if we agree) to train 60-70% of the time with us if we agree such deals. Sess has already met Poch in summer, more than once.”
