I do agree with this, we struggle to push the boat out with these signings, and it tends to hinge upon money. I'm sure we considered many of the players of that ilk brought over but were never in the race.

By my guess Mane twice, Martial, Willian, Oscar, Mkhitaryan, Mata, Cazorla, Zaha all fall into that bracket.

Kane and Alli were a right result for us.

Not many of those have lit up the league though have they? Bullet dodged in most of those cases I think.

EDIT: Yes this IS sarcasm before I get flayed alive.

Really? I think Mane, Martial, Willian, Mata and Zaha would all have been good signings. And Cazlorla was very good when not injured.

Let this please be taken as my opinion, based upon certain information gathered over pSt months. The club know they have to make a big statement in signings, especially against the uncontrollable rise of citeh and chavs, with mancs doing mancs. Now scoucers are spending, all be it most off sales, makes no difference.

I personally feel DL has convinced all and sundry to back Poch aggressively, on and off the pitch. Poch wants certain types of players to fit in with what he has. You can sign only so many untapped potential; Sanchez and Alli being 2 great examples. But against that you have the Clints and GKN, of this world. You then have VJ, which was 100% all Poch’s doing. Then you have Sissoko, who was again Poch’s doing

I believe our team of scouts does a better job in identifying the right ones. Putting that all together, this summer will be the most critical of our recent history. We will spend big, and have to get it right. We cannot afford any cock-ups, or late signings.

I'm sure we will spend big in the summer but surely being in the CL is going to be a major factor on who those players will be.

We are definately in the mix for a top 4 place and there are plenty of games to go. Having said that it' going to be really tough with all the big clubs challenging and likely to strengthen in this window. I'm normally optimistic about of chances but I certainly wouldn' put any money on it. My gut tells me it's going to be very difficult.

It's why we should have pulled out all the stops the last two seasons, when we've been in it. If we don't qualify this year, we're possibly looking at a couple of replacements.

I think this is by far the most intriguing part of your view. It's a part of our transfer policy that i've always had issue with.

Thank you for the info @Hercules. January signings under his regime would always worry me as I would see little early impact under this manager from a new signing until they have had some pre-season or time with the group. So this makes sense.

I already accepted the noted successes. Sonny was always on our radar before Poch arrived. It just worked out that when he came here, we were pursuing Sonny.

Just for clarity my post wasn't a reply to yours (y)

I wish I could vote funny again for the edit!

Funny thing is that there is probably enough of an argument to support the statement, however I'm sure we'd all gladly take most of them!

It's always the next window... What's wrong with the present one? It will only be harder to convince top talent to come to us once we've meekly surrendered our top 4 spot. Why run such a massive risk? The time to invest is NOW.

Thanks for your informed opinions Hercules, of course, along with the valued ITK so many of us crave.

In fact, big thank you to all the ITKs and those that pass on the info from sources beyond a humble mans means.

Oh go on then...

and not forgetting A&C who puts in a damn good effort to provide this particular platform when the transfer windows arrive.

Cheers. (y)

Put yourselves in the shoes of the other team.

Why on earth sell now if you don't have to? Unless the player is kicking up a right stink (or that's what you had agreed with them previously) then I'm not sure it's sensible; but you could name your price if you absolutely had to.

Now come back to Spurs' POV. We're not going to pay over the odds (see: all transfer windows). I doubt we'll ever see someone take as naturally to the team as Sanchez has, so there would be bedding in time risk too. Unless it's a Prem player (and who would that be?!)

All signs point to Summer quite naturally.

Might be reading too much into the recent ITK, but seems to be laying the blame for recent transfers at the managers door, rather than at our illustrious leaders

*does salute and sings our leader party song just incase donna has sent the DL spies*

*gets dragged away* Tell my family i love them

Opinions or based on credible ITK, I thank Hercules and the rest of the insiders for sharing bits of info.

IMO, Sissoko and Vincent are utter failures. I have never gone to a match to scout, but I have watched plenty of matches and how lumbering, non-technical players can be something of interest is beyond me. That was 47 million in reported transfer fees and if the weekly wages of Sissoko are to be believed, then we could have easily put that sum towards one of the Mane types. Hindsight is alwasy 20/20, but the average scout can see the gulf in ability.

Poch is a great manager of men and tactically astute. But I am beginning to think he has come issues in judging talent/skill.

I'm sure Janssen was well scouted. He was top scorer in the Eredivisie with 27 goals.

Even before he came I was knocking him as not good enough, and via my netwoyin orang world they were laughing at us, and shared as much at the time.
