I don't mind "the Spurs" when it's in that song, my logic being that the "the" comes from the original song lyrics (i.e. Oh when the saints go marching in) but I hate it when people say "the Spurs" in the way like "How did the Spurs play this weekend". Seems t be almost exclusively the yanks who do that though because they think it's The Spurs in the way that it's The Patriots or The Rams etc.

You've never heard anyone shout "Up the Spurs"?

It was in common usage not that long ago, it's not an Americanism.

"Good afternoon and welcome to White Hart Lane, the world famous home of THE Spurs"...

I've heard both of them, doesn't mean I have to like it :D

Maybe in years gone by that was the case, but nowadays it seems to me anyway to be exclusively used by Americans who don't really follow "soccer". I don't mean this in any way as a dig against Americans by the way, it was just an observation.

Why do people hate "The Spurs"? Its perfectly correct in grammatical terms whereas "come on YOU spurs" makes no grammatical sense whatsoever but is universally loved.

It's nothing to do with grammar it's just that I don't feel like our name is "the Spurs", it's just Spurs. To me it's like saying "the Man Utd" or something

I just went on The Grand Old Team Spurs thread and all they’re talking about is what is the best pub to go to near Wembley. The Green Man is the general consensus.

1 little sweetheart is worried about the pubs loss of trade around WHL. Good lad

Me and him both.

I like these two from the Burnley thread, most of which comment on GKN's speed:

".....can he trap a bag of cement?"

"No but if he decides to steal an ironing board he'll be able to outrun the shop security guard." :D

My favourite line was:

Trippier recently said that he thought he was fit until he went to Spurs, apparently Pochetino fit is fitter than Dyche fit - so he'll at least be fit !
