Spot on. We all know the way this will go. Is anything going to change in a week though that means we can defeat this tactic?

Fingers crossed for a dodgy deflection already

I'd say we have defeated this tactic a number of times this season already!
You beat it by scoring early!!

I really want to see us going back to three at the back as I think we've looked at our best with that formation this season, and it's now more of an option with Wanyama back.

Assuming Winks and Rose are not ready to go (and Toby obviously) I'll go:

Lloris

Dier Sanchez vertonghen

Aurier Wanyama Dembele Davies

Son Eriksen

Kane

Subs: Vorm, Foyth, Alli, Lamela, Llorente, Sissoko, Trippier
In writing that out, however, I did realise this means we need to drop Alli, and I do wonder if it's the best formation for Son who's been our best player in recent weeks.

Ah well...it's written down now. So that's the team we must play.

Not enough creativity in that team at all. Only Eriksen can pick out a pass in that team. If we're playing 3 cbs. We need at least one creative CM. This formation will struggle to break down teams.

That was our formation and personnel swap (Son/Alli) that we played last season when we were absolutely smashing teams.

Exactly.

We gain so much more space out wide with that formation which means we don't need three behind the striker. Add to that the fact that Kane creates so much himself these days, I'd be more than happy with Son/Eriksen/Alli being our only attacking players.

If it was a stalemate at half time then Eriksen can drop into midfield and Alli or Lamela can come on for Dembele or Wanyama.

Vorm Wanyama Foyth Trippier Sissoko Dembele Llorente

Prefer Vic to Dier there but don’t think it will be good business to drop Dier immediately when he’s back+ he’s a slightly better passer at deep pivot too imo.

I love this team which has enough pace out wide in Aurier and Son +at the back with Sanchez to push a high defensive line and still plenty of creativity in Lamela and Erickson to feed Kane and Dele. Stick with this team and we’ll see plenty of joy over our tough games of the next month imo. The only team I’d hedge against would be Liverpool where I’d block up the middle with Dembelle and Vic in place of Son+Lamela. A draw there against our main rivals for 4th is crucial and I think with the remaining fixtures this year we have enough to overhaul them if we don’t lose that 6 pointer. Especially after they’ve sold Coutinho and will create much less, even if they’ll be more solid.

The problem with this is that Lamela will stay inside and take space away from Dele and Eriksen. I think onl 2 of Dele, Eriksen and Lamela can play unless Eriksen is moved back to play in CM with either Dier or Wanyama.

This ought to be an interesting game. Insomuch that unlike our previous three opponents at Wembley, they won't come looking to park ten players behind the ball. That'll open up a bit more space for us to attack. But it also means, we need to be more solid defensively. This is where I think Poch needs to be a bit more strategic about picking the players that best fit the characteristics of our opponent.
For example, the recent shit show against West Ham wasn't much fun, cos we had an opponent willing to just sit and defend, and then rely on a wonder strike to get something outta the game. It's game like that, where we actually need Trippier to start, as he offers something more positive going forward. I also think that in games such as that, if we are playing four at the back, and we have a fit Wanyama, that Dier should join Verts. As he is much more comfortable passing and driving from the back than Sanchez. For some reason, it really seems to make Sanchez nervous when he's in that position, and having to meet those expectations. That in turn, effects his concentration. To me, he's looked at his best when having to defend by instinct. Hopefully now, with a fitter squad, Poch will give that more thought. For Everton, I think we need Sanchez, as we'll be doing a bit of defending. But we need Dier too. So, I'd go with the three at the back. With two wing back we know will attack down the flanks.

Lloris

Dier
Sanchez
Verts

Tripps
Wanyama
Dembele
KWP

Eriksen

Son
Kane

Subs: Alli, Davies, Lamela, Winks, Sissoko

Do people feel like Lamela could play next to Wanyama? I personally feel like he would put in one hell of a shift and it really utilizes a lot of his strengths (strength, quick passing, creative line cutting passes, posession/close control). I honestly would at least attempt it in the later stages of the game if a Dembele/Wanyama pairing is a bit too stagnant.

Something like:

------ HL ------
DS- ED- JAN
SA-VW-EL-BD
---DA----CE---
-------HK-------

Should we stick to 4 in defence then id guess he picks Dier over Sanchez (whos played a lot of matches recently) so im going for :

Hugo
Serge Dier Jan Davies
Big Vic Dele
Lamela Eriksen Sonny
Kane

Just hope he picks something more dynamic than the lineup against Wham
