I wasn’t a huge Barkley fan so not disappointed we didn’t sign him and while I’d love to get excited by the talk of bigger signings in the summer I can’t help feeling sceptical. Our planning constantly seems to assume zero inflation in prices or wages and this is constantly proved wrong. I fear that this summer we will see another explosion in fees as Real rebuild their squad, PSG probably don’t win the CL so go another Qatar publicity stunt buying spree, Bayern will have a new manager, Chelsea will be on the 2 year manager / squad rotation etc. Add to that the fact it is World Cup year and I can see DL planning to splash out on a few £40m players only to find that this money buys us Sissoko quality again.

Or maybe we get sanches quality again? I think once aurier gets fully settled he will be quality as well.

It’s funny you replied to my post because you seemed to completely ignore what I said. If we sign another player like Son - examples from the Bundesliga would be Reus or Schurrle - you don’t need to address the question of whether they will get game time due to Kane playing because they can play WITH Kane. If you keep trying to sign someone who can only play INSTEAD of Kane you will continue to have a problem.
Don’t worry, the majority of us understood this.

Though why any of this is in the ITK thread is anybody’s guess.

The lesson to be learned is that there is only so much planning you can do. Have lists and be ready to pounce at a moment's notice. Opportunities may come and go within a few days, so no endless haggling and no low-ball offers for key targets.

It's a sellers market.

Problem is that good players want to play - especially in World Cup years. If you’re a top class striker, your first question is going to be whether you will be getting game time. With Kane as the competition for the lone striker role, chances are you won’t be!
Alternatively, we DO sign someone on Kane’s level and guarantee him starts - then Kane gets the hump and wants to leave... bit of a challenge.
And I can see it being the same for anyone looking to slot into Alli’s place, etc.
Only time it works out is in cases like signing Sanchez where rotation is possible, he was young and looking to step up a level and then got “lucky” with the injury to Toby.

Sanchez didnt get lucky with the injury to Toby mate, he was playing alomgside Toby and Jan in a back three virtually from day one.

Am I the only one who couldn't care less about Ross Barkley?

I am seeing people say they are "huge fans". Everyone is entitled to their opinion but what exactly has he achieved?

Please dont reply "he has potential". He is 24 years old and still hasnt made the breakthrough like Alli, Sterling etc. I am not saying he wont but if he was that good he would have had a queue outside the door for him. Chelski have simply signed him for their english quota of players.

I would place him in the same group as the ox, wilshere etc

Happenings:barefoot::censored:;)

Not necessarily this month, but certainly summer. No hints at all. Keep believing and dreaming. It may be worth it.

SC ‘DCI’s’ get working. Winnering everything means nothing ;)

I will get shot if I say anymore :censored:

You, Optimist: Keep Dreaming!
Me, Spurs Fan: This can only end with me in drags with my head shaved singing I Dreamed a Dream to an empty room but with such emotion that would make Hathaway forfeit her Oscar won't it?

Nice to know even if we aren't making moves for this window, that we aren't sitting on our hands. Certainly a few interesting players out there that may be available.
