wolves have a bunch of players under mendes (helder costa, ruben neves, ivan cavaleiro, diogo jota and roderick miranda). the owner of wolves has a good relationship with mendes according to some reports (https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...ndes-wolves-influence-chinese-owners-signings), so it is not a surprise at all
Why on earth would he leave arguably the biggest club in the world and go to a Championship side? I think he will stay in Spain. IF he does go abroad, he will go to a top division team, no doubt.

This is surely just a re-hash of an old story, just an easy link to make for the papers. Not sure he’s what we’re missing in our squad either way!

if he does join wolves, jorge mendes is the main reason. ruben neves was linked to chelski, liverpool etc last summer but finally joined wolves from porto.
on the other hand, wolves is leading championship with 61 points while derby is the second with 49 points so it is probable that they will get promoted to PL next season.

I think it goes deeper than a good relationship, I think he has a stake in the club.

That's all very well, but the player still has to agree to it - I mean going from playing for Barca to the Championship is a bit of a stretch in anyone's world isn't it?

I agree, but Mendes can grease the wheels a lot more when he has a personal stake.

Mendes is the driving force behind Wolves recruitment, and that is the reason Lambert left his role there, he didn't like the structure. He was replaced by Porto's recently departed manager, another of Mendes clients.
Basically whatever squad gaps they need filling, Mendes sources the players. He's just using Wolves as a shop window for his clients. Wolves in the interim get the benfit of higher calibre players to help them get ahead. Win win.
Don't be surprised to see some of Wolves Iberian signings move on to bigger European clubs for decent profits quite quickly, and be replaced within the squad by more Portuguese players, the next tier of mendes clients that requiring exposure.
Wolves are happy to throw the funds at these players, because they know the sell on will be higher, and short term they can reap the benefits of having them on the park.

More or less all of Mendes's players signed by Wolves in the last window, along with the manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, would easily slot in at most PL and La Liga outfits and still did it.

Does anyone rate him?

from the clips I've seen I haven't been impressed.

He doesn't seem to have any awareness about him and is extremely direct.

It might just be the clips I've seen but he needs a lot of improvement.

For Barca last season he was dreadful. Pre Barca, looked great at times. Can see him being linked all window then going somewhere else, as not sure how high our interest even is.

I'm not sure its just that tbh. Wolves owners are an obscenely wealthy company with a huge yearly turnover and Monthly profits that dwarf even other wealthy owners like this at Leicester and Everton. Apparently theirs is a long term investment and they want to turn Wolves into the 'Man City of the West' with a goal of turning them into a top 6 club with Mendes playing a huge role in that. Their push for Andre Silva at 30m+ is evidence enough of that.

It's more than that. Mendes is basically their head of recruitment/director of football but they've set it up in some murky way to make it seem like he's not because it's such a glaringly obvious conflict of interest.

Feel like this guy is the only real potential signing this winter unless we do a Sessegnon loan back deal. Most signs are pointing to the fact that Barca didn't want him to leave during the summer as they didn't get Coutinho, now they have Coutinho. ITK mentioned a better CM than Barkley coming available so that would make sense. I'll let you guys debate that fact but I'd be excited to have him.
