Might be a dumb question but can transfer fees be agreed to now and become legally binding with the actual transfer taking place in summer? I keep hearing a general theme from the ITK of things perhaps being agreed on but not announced. I just have an image of teams agreeing to sell someone for a price now and then raising the price back up in summer. And then I think "well if the agreement is signed and legally binding now why wait until summer?" there is where my confusion comes from.

Again maybe dumb question but is that a possibility now with this ITK? For instance, if by some chance it was Pulisic and a legal binding agreement was made, why would we have to wait until summer to announce?

Have to say I’m not sure this is exciting ITK for January. Sounds like we might get a deal done in the summer? And the summer is a long long way off so anything could happen. And if it’s sponsorship news, meh!
I thought the January Window ITK was all about possible new signings in January m?We can make sponsorship deals at anytime of the year so not sure it qualifies for “January window ITK”? Just my opinion but it’s up so I guess it qualifies as per the sites rules!

Who said anywhere that the itk should only be about january? Do you really want people with information to withold it?

If you want itk about january the last we had was that it was going to be quiet. So i guess there is no reason for you to be here?

Basically, no. Clubs could agree a fee in principle but it wouldn't be legally binding. Too many things could go wrong - the player could get a serious injury; another club may come in with a larger bid; the player refuses to sign. Nothing stops a team buying a player and loaning him back.

In the case of a Bosman transfer, a player can agree a pre-contract in January to join a club at the end of the contract but there is no agreement between the clubs.

Yes it's possible. Liverpool have done exactly that by agreeing to sign Naby Keita in the summer. If there's a signed agreement the selling club can't put the price up.

Hopefully we've signed some big money partnerships for the new stadium, and we're using some of the cash to bump everyones' contracts up.

I think the itk could be that we will see a load of new contracts being announced between now and the end of the season. That would be “brilliant business” wouldn’t it?

Guys & Gals! Listen up!
We have DONE business-Brilliant business(y):sneaky:

Will hear within the weeks, through to summer:p

I am excited as a true COYS! No funny emoticons neither :poop:
Thanks Hercules for the great info.

IMHO I don't think this relates to one particular thing but several things, I might be barking up the wrong tree but the "Will hear within weeks through to summer" means we might be releasing information over several weeks /months. A bit like about a year and a half ago where we got ITK that certain players had signed new contracts but there was no announcement and then several weeks later there would be a picture of one of them with Pochs arm around them and then a few hours / days / weeks later there would be another picture of another player and it just kept going on. We might be looking at the same thing but possibly more extreme so there might be a few different announcements on new contracts, there might be a few announcements regarding stadium and /or sponsor(s) and then there might also be announcements about new players coming in.

Anyway keep up the good work everyone.

I don't think this is true. I can't see any reason why the player cannot be sold now, with contracts agreed between clubs and player, with the transfer date set for the summer. The contract would be subject to alot of things, obviously, such as passing a fitness test, but fee and personal terms could definitely be agreed.

I'm not sure, however, what the advantage of this over buying now and loaning back would be.

Agreed

Primarily I think it means a number of sponsorship deals

From there, there will be player contract extensions (see news report of new contract in the Telegraph for Alli this morning)

And finally, there will be new players coming in, although we probably won't hear about this until June/July or early August

We'll see I guess...

VVD isn't £75m though. It was exceptional circumstances and there was no other club bidding(plus he only wanted Liverpool and was going through the motions in playing). It's like using the £30m for Sissoko as a standard to value box-to-box midfielders and then demanding £50m for Loftus-Cheeks.
Certain transfers have an effect on overall values. Neymar has lifted the value of every elite player. Last season there was talk of whether Kane would be the first £100m player. By maintaining his standards he’s probably doubled in value. But that’s just the market.

Coutinho’s sale means the KDB must be worth in excess of £150m. A top 3 full back? Your not getting change out of £50-£55m and there’s talk of Chelsea buying Alex Sandro for in excess of £60m.

Toby’s buyout clause feels very similar to Ronaldo when he left Barcelona for Inter. Barca set what they thought was a prohibitive buyout only for the market roar past it and make it very attractive.

Assuming we extend his contract for a year and trigger the £20-25m buyout then City will simply swoop in and we don’t have a ready made replacement for him. Nobody has a ready made replacement for there best defender. We suffered similarly when losing, Berbatov, Modric and then Bale.

Hopefully Liverpool will suffer for the rest of the season.

Didn’t we agree a deal for Modric in April for him to join in the summer
