The only position where someone would go straight in would be the more attacking of the two CMs, given Dembele and Winks' injury woes. Maybe one of the 3 AM positions if they were really special.

On a slightly more serious note... this is rather surprising, isn't it? I think we were all distinctly under the impression that this is going to be yet another quiet January. Such is the way. But if JJ, of all people, is insinuating that something is afoot... well, that's really interesting. Of course, I can't begin to guess who it might be. But if he's insisting it's someone that might walk into the first 11, it's gotta be a pretty bloody good player. As it's not like we have any glaring holes. Keeping my fingers crossed that something comes from it!!

If it is someone who he says can walk straight into the side I would assume that it would be player(s) already playing in PL

If they are to make an impact straight away then i would of thought it was a premier league player. Maybe mahrez?

Wrong. That's a British rule only. In Germany teams are allowed to sign Bosman players to contracts from the beginning of January.


Jan Kirchhoff for instance signed his contract with Bayern on January 11th of the year his contract with Mainz ran out:

Teams can absolutely buy/sell players in advance and it happens all the time. They sign all the same paperwork as you do for a normal transfer but you just put the date in as the first day of the next transfer window (or whatever it may be). For example, we did that when we signed Modric. We signed all the paperwork in the spring some time I believe and then he came in the summer.

As for bosman, you're also not quite right. They can sign a pre-contract with another club 6 months before the end of their current deal (whether that be January or otherwise) but that only applies to FOREIGN clubs i.e. City cannot sign a pre-contract with Sanchez at the moment, but someone like Bayern could. A club in the same league can only sign a pre-contract with the player 1 month before the end of their contract.

With regards to the Bosman transfers, it is the EPL that ruled that pre-contracts cannot be entered into with another Premiership team. That is not the case in the rest of Europe which is why Goretzka can sign a pre-contract with Bayern.

In terms of the first point, I was responding to a question of whether advance transfers are legally enforceable. As FIFA rules prevent players from entering into contracts with other clubs (except under the Bosman rules), advance transfers cannot be legally enforced. Liverpool may have agreed terms in advance with Leipzig for the transfer of Naby Keita, but Keita could not legally sign a pre-contract with Liverpool. Providing all the parties are happy with the terms, it is not a problem.

Thanks for the news J!

Without reading into the tea leaves too much, I hope it is someone that can challenge the front three behind Kane. An added bonus if we can also get someone that could slot in and make it a real competition in training cause right now I feel some are real comfortable knowing their spot isn’t up for grabs.

However small impact Nkoudou has made, given the fact we just let go off him so early in window, my guess is signing could be a winger...

Unless there’s a non HG player leaving, it would have to be some HG for CL registration rules. There aren’t many of those who could improve us immediately. Walker, maybe Shaw, Rashford, none of which seem likely.

That is until you remember that Bale counts as homegrown by Spurs....

Sanchez went straight into the team after joining from Ajax. So did Aurier, although he tends to rotate with Trips.

Interesting. I think you can also use underage players without registering them as part of your CL squad.

Non-HG u21's do not qualify unless they have been registered to the club for 2 years
