The spending is getting worse, not better. Us standing firm isn't going to stop the wealthy clubs going further and further.
Having a dig a Barca is cheap as well considering what PSG paid them for Neymar.

Sorry, but seems a very contradictory article to me.

States that spending £45 million on a young player unproven in the premier league would be a big gamble and as fans we shouldn't complain if we don't.

Did we not just pursue this exact scenario when signing Sanchez, albeit a few quid less.

Times are changing. Player prices rocketing, even the bang average cost more these days. £40 Million is the new £20 million.

It's alright the article stating we shouldn't be spending X,Y or Z amount on players, but what it fails to address is the fact that whilst the market has inflated, so too has the value of our players.

Of course every club may unearth a little gem for hardly anything, but I believe the article to be way off the mark if it believes we are going to sit back and stagnate, spending the bare minimum.

Like I've said, we just spent circa £40+ million on a CB, Young and no Prem experience prior. All signings can be considered a gamble.

decent points in this article....Barca have history....look how the almost went to the wall but were bailed out after obscene spending in the early 2000s....same with Madrid by the way.

Read the article. Still believe it basically says we shouldn't risk a big money signing, and rely on youth to keep the finances healthy.

Does the article know our transfer budget, what we can and can't afford.

Secondly, the article is completely flawed if we are to believe youth alone will be the future.

I'm all for integration of youth, but at times quality is needed also. Quality costs money.
Not saying let's spend beyond our means, but we can't moan about the cost of players if we are to place high figures on our own players.

If we sign Malcolm. ..great.

If not ...So be it.

I'll leave that to those who make the decisions, just don't need some I'll informed article stating that Spurs should basically know their place, save their money and promote all the youth.

If we want to spend we will.

"Even Erik Lamela, who was among those players, is great but would you say he’s been worth £25.8million? It’s certainly debatable."

Ha! It would take a lot more than £26 million to purchase lamela now

I just feel that the club and Poch are being sensible, the transfer market bubble will burst at some stage as it cannot continue at this rate. If it does football clubs as we know them will also go bust and the average loyal fan priced out of buying tickets. The debt some clubs are carrying beggars believe and will not be sustainable if the rich owner walks away.
I would love us to buy a world class player but would prefer it if the club continued to balance the books, develop the youngsters and maintain a sensible approach to transfer fees. We found Ali for a pittance others are out there waiting. Come on You Scounts!

The price quoted though was £45m.

That’s what makes me think it wasn’t price alone that made us pull our interest, we allegedly paid £42m for Sanchez so I doubt a few million more would deter us if we really wanted him.

Maybe it was his wage demands?

As i said (if the story is even true) we'll only do it if we think it's a good deal.
