Tottenham's Christian Eriksen tells @TV3sportPL he is interested in renewing his contract with the London club. "I am happy to be at the club and have nothing negative to say about it [Tottenham] at all."

If we can get him tied down along with the latest news on Toby, it really will shut up the people who are insisting we will lose our top players.

To see Eriksen say this is a testament in how much we've grown as a club since he joined. Get him signed up Levy!

He's read Hercules ITK that we're minted come the summer and won't be beaten on wages.

Filthy rumour whore Christian.

Out of interest, does anyone know if the players still receive 10% of a transfer fee nowadays?

As far as I'm aware it's never been a set thing that all players get 10% of the transfer fee. It depends on the terms they agree when signing a contract. They may get a loyalty bonus, percentage of sell on fee etc. Anything can be worked in to a personal services contract. It's different for all players.

I’m sure at some point it was definitely 10% but I haven’t heard that spoken about for a good few years now.

The reason I asked is because with the stupid money being paid now, a £100m transfer for someone like Eriksen would give them £10m in the bank just like that. I know they earn shitloads anyway but still, £10m! For them to turn that down when they know they could get it if they wanted it takes a lot of willpower and trust in their current clubs. The tv money bubble could burst at any point like itv digital did so I just wonder if that crosses the players’ minds. Obviously all this is dependant on that 10% thing which probably doesn’t happen anymore as you say.

.

It certainly used to be common place & was a way of players boosting their money. I vaguely recall an ex-player telling a story that a move fell through at £2m & he was eventually sold for £1m so missed out on £100k!!

I'd imagine it was phased out & replaced by different types of bonuses etc. Given modern wages, it's not needed.

Oh and the agent takes it nowadays anyway!

That was where I thought it went.

Well it used to be 10% if the player was sold by the club. If they asked for a transfer they got nothing.

I'm sure all that type of stuff has changed with more detailed and individually tailored contracts.

A long time ago, back in the 60s and 70s, it was 5% if the club sold you and you'd not asked to go. It was supposed to defray the cost of uprooting your family to a new place.
