At the stadium today, when they announced the team, each player got a cheer. It got louder for the top stars, but for Son, the pitch of the cheer was higher. It’s like he’s attracting half of South Korea to the stadium.

Sonny the superstar

Whisper it quietly so those clubs with all the money don't notice, but Heung-Min Son is turning into a bit of a superstar.

Those in South Korea have known this for a long time. The fury in Son's homeland whenever Mauricio Pochettino leaves him out of the Tottenham starting XI is incredible. The Argentine is public enemy number one those weeks.

Son scored 21 goals last season and was terrific for Spurs, but Pochettino is right when he says the player is much better this time around.

The attacker told football.london last month that he had changed his diet and had worked harder on all aspects of his career and the Spurs boss was in full agreement.

"He's showing he's more mature than last season and his performances are helping the team a lot," said Pochettino. "Today everyone can see that he's on a higher level, the belief and confidence that show in every game is fantastic.

"We work hard, the staff and all the areas; sports science and medical staff, to try to help the players. But he deserves the credit as how he is doing is because of him.

"Of course, we work, we talk but at the end always it is the talent and belief of the player and showing what they have inside and their talent. We talk a lot but he deserves the credit."

In the past Son always seemed to be further down the pecking order behind the likes of Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli. He's worked hard to ensure that's anything but the case now.

He became the first Tottenham player since Jermain Defoe to score in five consecutive Premier League home matches and he's truly becoming one of the team's superstars.

What do we estimate his value at now? Obviously not interested in selling but he would surely command a huge fee these days

United fan at work told me his 13 year old son, also a United fan, absolutely loves Son. Not sure why but must be for everything listed above.

He's probably the second best "inside forward" in the league with Hazard being the best. Arsenal fans are clamouring for Mahrez, Son IMO is miles ahead. Quick, direct, he can fire rockets from either foot, natural finisher, decent decision making and at 6ft is a presence in the box from set pieces.

*Edit, I forgot about Sanchez. Perhaps a close third.

Thing is with Son is that he not only has the ability but he has a personality too that is so infectious and you just cannot help but love and admire.

Plus the other million of pirate copied Son shirts being sold somwhere in Asia ;)
Hate to be "that guy" but just cos he's Asian doesn't mean other Asian countries give a shit. If the situation was reversed and some French bloke was doing the same in a Korean EPL would we be buying shirts? Until he reaches world icon level or we win the league it'll be Kane shirts being sold in the likes of Thailand and little else.

Anyway enough of my bollocks. Son is fantastic and long may this form continue.

Sorry mate, but when Park was playing with United, many Asians really like him regardless of whether they were United fans or not, when at that time Ronaldo was the talk of the club.

Now Son is not just scoring for us, a rising club to be noticed nevertheless, setting the world's most popular league ablaze with some scintillating performances and worldie goals, not to forget his humble attitude and dashing K-pop outlook, you can never underestimate how we Asians, Spurs fans or not, have like, or even love him at this moment. Son's jersey will be preferred over Kane for absolutely sure.

Sane? Think Sane is better than Sanchez and Hazard and the closest in style to Son.

Salah is looking pretty good to, with his 20 odd goals in debut season.

He’s become undroppable just like Kane and Eriksen. I love Dele but if we return to playing 3 in the back vs. Chelsea or Juventus, Dele is the one who has to sit. Sonny offers things nobody else at the club can out there on the pitch.

Very, very generous to Hazard with players like Sane, Sterling, Mane, Salah, Sanchez, Mahrez and Son in the league. Not sure what he’s done to be considered the best of those. Yes he’s probably the most natural dribbler, but his G+A contributions are consistently the lowest of those listed, and he’s hardly an Eriksen/Silva/KDB type who will control a game from deep.

I think if we go back three against a lot of teams, I would be playing Dele and Eriksen around one holding player, with Son up with Kane. Maybe away to Juve or at Anfield, Poch will have a decision to make...
