It's all about the number of teams above us not just the points, if we wanted second we would have to outperform all of the three teams which is hard but to get fourth, all of those three teams have to outperform us to stop us which is a much more favourable position.
It's like escaping from a hungry grizzly bear, you don't have to outrun the bear you just have to outrun one of the other people in your group.
Personally I think we'll make third this year.

Yeah. Their winning the Europa League and getting the Champions League that way is the ultimate doomsday scenario for us, but it's one I can definitely see happening unfortunately.

That's 9 games to play. Almost a quarter of a PL season.

You saw the team they had out today, signing a couple of superstar newbies isn't going to beef up a demoralised and under strength squad especially if you factor in Wheelchair getting injured again and the likes of Walnut sloping off to pick
up +£100k in some mid table side.

Arse look like signing Aubameyang and Malcom in next few days if you believe the press....! there not out of it yet
The problem there is not one that adding some attackers is going to solve. It’s hard wired into the culture of the club, a lack of spine, just doing enough, just being happy to be on good wages.

Can't see them getting past the likes of Athletico Madrid, Napoli & Dortmund. I guess maybe if they get lucky and somehow avoid them.

Well, to be specific, as things stand right now nobody must outperform us at all. In fact Chelsea, Liverpool and United can all do slightly worse than us from today and to the end, and still end up ahead of us. So to take you analogy, the bear is actually lurking in the bushes around the corner, and we must sprint very, very fast past it. That being said, I agree with you. I think it's quite likely that when all is said and done, we'll be top 4. Much depending on the upcoming matches vs. Liverpool and United, of course.

And we have Wanyama back who will make a massive difference to our midfield and just when we need that depth as well.

Dembele also starting to look like his beastly best.

We're looking incredibly strong now. I think many of us underestimate our own strengths and changing circumstances.

Agree with this. Since the Burnley game where Sanchez returned and we finally got a DM back in we have been as good as anyone in the league, and now we have Wanyama back to add depth there. Like last year the attackers have picked up form over the Xmas period.

It's easy to look at Liverpool and say wow but even when they were finishing 6th-8th they were picking up results like this.

I think Chelsea are our best hope as all is not well with Conte but like Utd they seem to keep grinding out results when being pretty meh.

No doubt we've got to be bang on it this time, no stumbling over the line, but on current form we're more than capable...

To me equation is simple. Our defense has let us down in first half season with us conceding a goal a game. If we tighten our defense here on in to the level of last season we will score well more than 2 points a game , enough to be in top4 or even top3. IMO, we need to concede lesser - hence Wanyama, Toby back to full fitness & form is so crucial

Just think the United game could be as close to defining as it gets.

It's a six pointer, and if they were to beat us we'd be in trouble, not to mention the hard run of games immediately thereafter.

Beat them though and it could set us up massively and I'd fancy us to finish above them irrespective of what Chelsea and Liverpool do.

Man U, Chelsea, Pool. Its not gonna be easy. We play United, Arse and Liverpool after Southampton. It will decide our season.

We have to win our 2 home games.

If Sanchez goes to Utd it makes getting top 4 that little bit harder, no matter what our form is.

I don't really see why two players of that calibre would sign for Arsenal in the situation they're in at the moment (both as a club and their league position). Money helps, I suppose.

In our own hands simple as that. If we don’t get it we probably don’t deserve it. The top 6 games will be critical. 3 pts from a possible 15 so far.i’d say we need 10pts from the next 15 available. Any less we won’t get top 4 and nobody to blame but ourselves.
Or,the referees, aka emirates

Nothing in it between 2nd and 5th, nothing , just refereeing decisions luck or no luck.

I think we play, better footie, than utd thats for sure and are a more balanced unit than Liverpool and have a greater morale than chelsea.

With the wembley factor weve still had an impressive season, with the lane we,d be challenging city no doubt
