On the plans posted in this thread there is definitely a marked space in front of the north stand for lamp array storage which can only really be for grass maintenance, but it would be fairly easy(I actually can’t say how easy) to put lamps above the retracted pitch in the south stand. So the pitch slides away and into its envelope and inside that space the temperature can be controlled.

I have no idea about any of this. I’ve just looked at the tray construction, tracks and the rest on the webcams. There’s no way to see under the south stand to see if the trays have even been placed yet onto tracking
Acftually, I think I recall somewhere that the biggest problem with modern stadia is not so much the light level, but the air circulation, right down at the grass level. It'll be much easier to force circulate air when the pitch is withdrawn than when it is out, so there might be some added benefit there, too.

True but I bet most of those open air events will take place between mid may and late July.
Not sure you’ve really grasped the concept of this stadium. It’s been designed as a multi purpose arena. I’d say the retractable pitch is just as much to host other events as NFL. I would imagined it will be in use from March - October for other events. And things like Boxing e sports could even take place in early/late winter. Imo it will be pretty much used all year round that was the whole point.

Yes but I didn't say all of them I said most of them and still think that will be the case.
I will also own up to the fact that I don't know what e sports are, the e leads me to think its virtual/ screen based is that right?

Wasn't it our head groundsman that helped Wembley with their pitch issues caused by the same thing, the pitch wasn't the problem the stadium design was, it's why they did something to the design of the emirates (IIRC) our design has achieved the same thing but without being so far from the pitch. (something like that)

i think he's been heavily involved in this pitch project and given we have a history of having very good playing surface i'd be surprised if he wasn't consulted when the stadium plans got announced, maybe one of reasons for some of the design changes (i'm guessing here) we changed architects didn't we?

Pitch needs more light/can we get more airflow to pitch level? (stuff like that) i mean first and foremost we are building a football stadium so the green bit should be priority (you'd think anyway)

All of the above is either my onions or my shrapnel cluttered memory.

We changed architects to include nfl.

E-Sports basically big computer game tournaments held over a period of time whittled down to either head to head or teams. Think along the lines of a poker tournament but with a games controller and a big TV screen rather than a deck of cards and a table.

Cheers, do they need an area the size of a football pitch for that? I guess I figured that sort of thing is an indoor event unless of course, they get huge crowds.

It’d be indoors. I guess they’d use all the indoor space, similar to the Emirates when they rent it out for conferences and X-Factor auditions.

It's huge in Asia and getting very big in the West. I think in Asia some get attendances of 50k with millions of online viewers.

Still not sure it's popular enough over here to warrant a football stadium though, guess we'll see.

All sounds about right. That might be what I'm remembering.

I was just browsing skyscrapercity and Hotspur Sam who I think is on Spurs Odessy says the event number is 16 non football, but under 10k attendance there is no limit at all. When we used West Ham corporate facilities in the past it was the cheapest in London of its type irrc at £5k per hour with a pitch view, much less in the non pitch view rooms and arsenal/Spurs considerably more per hour, arsenal charging the highest in London with the brand new facilities, which will now pass to us as the newest spec hires. With the hotel as well, very attractive.

I guess it remains to be seen what sort of event sizes can be held away from the pitch, and also if small events on the pitch can be held too.

Not sure why the disagree @davidmatzdorf ? The old architect (kss) basically said as much on scc. That is how we found out we were planning on having nfl at the lane. Years before the official announcement.

My memory is that they changed from KSS to Populous a long time before the NFL idea was even a whisper.
