My opinion is levy thought we were the front runners for barkley and could wait until the summer and get him on a free and its backfired.

By the time chelsea had swooped in again it was to late and we couldnt match the wages on offer so we move on. Shame really as I thought he would be a good signing and would strengthen the team and give us options.

Mate.. http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/revealed-joe-andersons-explosive-letter-14131295

But now the ECHO can exclusively reveal that Mayor Anderson is so concerned by the manner in which the transfer was done - that he has contacted the relevant policing authorities to investigate “whether any fraud has taken place.”

The lifelong Everton fan is unhappy that Barkley had arranged to move to Stamford Bridge in the summer for a reported fee of £35 million, before pulling out of the deal at the last minute.

This seriously sums up the small time mentality of Liverpool as a city. Cringe worthy that a publicly paid elected official is wasting his time on stuff like this.

While it's almost certain that they have done that, which is definitely not allowed, it will be virtually impossible to prove so it's a complete waste of time.

The Times reporting that Chelsea paid a £7m agents fee to get him. I know we've been guilty in the past of paying agents a lot of money but you've got to think that would be a reason why we didn't sign him as well.

His signing on fee would be more than that you’d assume? What, £10 million?

Chelsea had a £35 million deal agreed last summer. Barkley & his agent will have been aware that there was basically £20 million floating around once the £15 million fee had been agreed. No surprise it's gone in their pockets.

Disappointed in Barkley if true.. No wonder Poch doesn't want him if reports of us capable of matching chelscum offer is correct. Nobody of questionable character is fit to be in the club, an integrity I believe Poch is very much in upholding.

I think Levy looks at the agent of any potential signing almost as much as the player. If you sign someone with a pain in the arse agent, you’re almost guaranteed trouble down the line.

So it was OK with the Mayor when Everton were ripping Chelsea off, vastly over charging for a mediocre, badly injured player with 11 months left on his contract, of which he was likely to unavailable to play for 6/7 ?

Chelsea would have been absolutely mental to pay 35m in August.

Was out with Mark Redknapp tonight and he said that Barkley's agent made £7.5m from the Chelsea deal, also pretty much confirmed that Chelsea stuck a deal with him in the summer which was to shaft Everton and sign in January.

That's seriously criminal. 15 million transfer and 7.5 million for the agent ? I know agents do a job, but that is just a silly percentage !

Great quote from Conte after the game

"I think that Willian injury was decisive because, we don’t have many players to make substitutions. Morata was out and today after the injury to Willian, I was a bit forced to decide to play with Ross Barkley.

Do have some pity on them. This quote from Conte before the match was even more gold:

"Now I think Manchester United and Manchester City stay there [at the top], and we have to try and build something important to create a basis, and then make success with our work. Not with money. With work.

"We need to improve this team, improve the squad, to create this basis. Don't forget, in the last couple of years, we lost a lot of old players who wrote the history of this club. There is -- I don't like this word -- 'transition' but sometimes you have to stop yourself and see the truth.

"I trust in my work. And I think that, if I stay here [beyond this season], it'll be because the club trusts in my work. And not only the money. You can do two types of football: Only with money and you pay a lot and take the best players; the other way is to try and put a bit of money in and then hard work. We are in the middle. We are working and trying to do our best during the transfer market."
They are a club of transition FFS!! WTF?! :playful:

Conte isn't going to there next season and it's pretty obvious that it wasn't his choice to bring him in.
