I'm a bit surprised tbh. I thought with GKN going out to Burnley then Edwards was liable for more minutes with us. I expected one or other of them to go out on loan, but not both.

Good move IMO. Needs to go there pull his finger out and try prove what we know he can.
If he does then more opportunities will arrive for sure next year

Yeah nah, we said this last year around this time and he's actually been pretty damn good for the youth team this season as well as england mid year and he still hasn't featured in a senior squad once. Him not playing is absolutely not because he hasn't worked hard, it's on poch. I hope he kills it anyway, but more to prove poch wrong for not giving him a chance; especially since we only have one winger now given GKN's departure.

Is Lamela not a winger anymore?

GKN rarely got near the team anyway. While stockpiling players is fine, if the manager is never going to play them it’s pointless

Anyway, hope he gets some good game time. I think it will be very good for his development.

It will certainly toughen him up, it can be a bit brutal in the Championship. Hopefully I'll get to see him a few times on the television before seasons end.

This move is good for him, needs to start playing against Men instead of Boys, and delivering on the potential we all know he holds!! Don’t want this kid to become the next Ravel Morrison!

Ffs actually disrespectful to even somewhat compare Morrison and Edwards.

Any more? He's never been a winger.
What does he play exactly then? Everything I've seen of him points to an inverted winger. He always plays on the right of the three behind the forward and drifts in from there.

There's all sorts of fancy modern names for what he does but I would suppose he's most commonly referred to as an "inside forward" or wide AM of some sort. A winger stays out wide and looks to put crosses in, Lamela stays further in, cuts inside and looks to play through balls and get shots away. Completely different role if you ask me.
