Any reason he’s not been snapped up before? He’s 21 (albeit just) and normally by that age a team lower down the league would have taken a punt.

Don’t get me wrong, he’s got plenty of time (as we know with Kane’s rate of development) but he’s a later bloomer than most

I'd say a late bloomer for any position could not ever be at 21...surely mid-twenties?

A lot of teams keeping an eye on him. Just waiting for someone to make the move, I suppose.

Yep think they loaned him back to Coventry after they signed him and then sent him to Aberdeen for a while. Think this is the first season he's featured prominently.

Good video of his loan spell at Aberdeen.

Well he can beat the first man from a corner, so it’s a yes from me :D.

Seriously, I’m all for these types of signings and in a way I’d rather we go down this route than sign another N’koudou/N’jie type punt.

However, we must bare in mind that not every lower league player is going to be another Dele and in addition we still need to sign established players ready to provide immediate competition for places, because our other rivals will certainly be doing so.

It shows you that David Pleat can spot a good young player and we should have acted on it at the time.

He's a mate of a mate and he says he's a good lad.

Watching some of the clips of him he looks brilliant.

Could be awesome in central midfield, help dictate play.

I'm going to sound unpopular on here but he's an upgrade to Winks.

Such a clean passer and the sort of player who loans the ball out to his team mates, similar to what Scholes and Gazza use to do.

Herc's just posted in the itk thread. Looks like this lad wants to play each week and lots of suitors for him. I'm not sure we can convince him to come here unless he agrees to join and we keep him there on loan. He probably thinks he's good enough to play in the PL now but I can't see us dropping anyone to play him instead just yet.

To me, this makes so much sense.

The quote from Pochettino within the article hopefully alludes to this happening.

"It's so important today to identify our targets for next summer," Pochettino said. "Maybe we need to sign players in January and bring them in six months before. [The Dele Alli deal] is a very good example that you need to anticipate. And today we are at a club that needs to anticipate. We cannot be reactive because if we are, we are going to lose."

He seems like a very driven lad, and does genuinely want to improve and be the best. Having bumped into him and the rest of the Aberdeen squad on a night out once, he was by far the least arrogant player there, and came across very well.

Hoping the relationship that Hercules mentioned with Norwich is as good as the one with Ajax and helps this transfer a long a bit.

He does look a talent and based on what people have been noting we could do with in regard to being able to commit players and move the ball further up the pitch, he looks like he has that in buckets.

I'll keep my fingers crossed.

This looks promising all of a sudden, we've obviously kept tabs on him for a few seasons.

Can anyone shine a light on the type of midfielder he is? Any comparisons with our squad? Thanks

He's a number 10, rotate/backup with Eriksen I imagine.

With the emergence of this potential signing perhaps that was another reason to cut Barkley loose, if so then it's another astute bit of business by the club.
