Herc's just posted in the itk thread. Looks like this lad wants to play each week and lots of suitors for him. I'm not sure we can convince him to come here unless he agrees to join and we keep him there on loan. He probably thinks he's good enough to play in the PL now but I can't see us dropping anyone to play him instead just yet.

Don't think he expects to play every week. If he does he's not coming here. Sounds to me like he wants to be part of the first team squad with the opportunity to advance. Seems like he's confident enough to back his own ability. IMO he'd be at the KWP stage which may not be enough for him though. Other teams could get him on the pitch quicker than us but nobody at our level.

Norwich were lower prem when they signed him weren't they?

He was loaned back to Coventry the season that Norwich were relegated, so he hasn't made any EPL appearances.

We were heavily linked to him when he was at Coventry but never followed it up. I imagine that Daniel is regretting not snapping him up then for £2m. Will cost a lot more now.

My Norwich City mates really rate him (and Pritchard).

He's a number 10, rotate/backup with Eriksen I imagine.

Would definitely be good to have a rotation for Eriksen of some sort - he's been the one player we've been unable to rest/rotate effectively behind Kane (who we also have that problem with).

With the emergence of this potential signing perhaps that was another reason to cut Barkley loose, if so then it's another astute bit of business by the club.

I agree if that's how our options boiled down - pay £15m + £7m in agents fees for RB (with some current and possibly ongoing injury questions) or pay there or thereabouts for a slightly younger player with good potential. I have a feeling a few of our deals will look like this until we get into the new stadium and start reaping the benefits.

The difference for me is when fit, RB has that additional level of proven quality, which we may have to wait on and develop from Maddison. Short term we have to suffer that but the longer term benefits could be much greater if the latter continues to grow.

I think that's the club's motto right now a long term growth and vision.

This is his season so far at Norwich. Looks really good, lovely close control and finishing, and some excellent passing. Only question is, if we signed him, what shirt number does he take? Him and Eriksen can't both be 23. Seems like an excellent addition to our squad depth though, and the fact that he's British will really help with our registration numbers for Europe.

Looks a tidy player. Eye for a pass, eye for a goal. Would be a smashing acquisition if he can replicate his ability in the Prem.

Seen some people say he’s been the best player in the Championship this season.

Given his age, nationality, form, and this current market, I get the feeling Norwich are going to get the 20m+ that’s rumored to be their price tag. And by the looks of it I think justifiably so.

To me it looks like this is going to come down to who else he’s considering and what they can offer him in terms of minutes. If he’s considering the likes of Citeh, Pool, etc., I think we have the best argument for a spot in the XI (edit: rotation in the XI, not like he’d slot right in) amongst that lot. If we’re up against the likes of Southampton, Everton, Spam, etc., it might be a tougher sell if playing time is that important to him.
Think we’re the best situation if he’s willing to be patient and earn his minutes.

Really surprised at how good he looks in those videos, both for Aberdeen and for Norwich. I’m now genuinely excited at the prospect of signing James Maddison from a mid-table Championship club, which I didn’t think I’d be saying at the start of the window.

And a few posters will be calling for levys head if we don't sign him even though they'd never heard of him last week.

Gotta make you laugh.

There doesn’t seem to be a downside to this guy as, at worst he’d be severely upgrading a bench whose only attacking midfielder of genuine quality is the oft injured Lamela. At best we’ve got another Dele find and can finally start giving both Dele and Eriksen much needed rotation to preserve their fitness.

Fantastic free-kicks. Looks like a great player already, for his level.
