My memory is that they changed from KSS to Populous a long time before the NFL idea was even a whisper.

Nope the head architect wrote about it and how gutted he was that kss had lost the contract. This was before any announcement that populous had taken over. It was the first we heard of nfl as well.

Over on skscrapercity the guy from kss confirmed that they had revised the capacity of the stadium up to 61k before populous were brought in. Sorry cant quote as i'm on my phone. But it looks like we're going large :-D.

I posted this July 2013. Populous design was released 2015. David Kearle was the architect and was good friends with a guy on scc who posted his e-mails.

My bad david kearle was chairman of kss not an architect.

E stands for electronic. (I think).

I think that too but that's me done then.

E-Sports basically big computer game tournaments held over a period of time whittled down to either head to head or teams. Think along the lines of a poker tournament but with a games controller and a big TV screen rather than a deck of cards and a table.

Cheers, do they need an area the size of a football pitch for that? I guess I figured that sort of thing is an indoor event unless of course, they get huge crowds.

It’d be indoors. I guess they’d use all the indoor space, similar to the Emirates when they rent it out for conferences and X-Factor auditions.

It's huge in Asia and getting very big in the West. I think in Asia some get attendances of 50k with millions of online viewers.

Still not sure it's popular enough over here to warrant a football stadium though, guess we'll see.

The League of Legends finals were held in China last year in the Bird's Nest stadium you might recognise from the Olympics:

The previous rounds were all played in stadiums with an average attendance of 40,000 people.

Over 60 million people watched the finals worldwide.

I'm new to this forum and I thought I'd start with a question.
As Spurs have gone with a few unique features for the stadium email e.g. retractable pitch, microbrewery, roof walk etc.
Do you have any wacky ideas that we should've included?
I had two ideas.
1) Using the roof space for something like a park and plant trees/ flowers etc. I think AC Milan proposed it for their needs ground. It would've made the stadium really stand out in the world, economic friendly and raise Spurs' profile.
2) My favourite idea. The south stand should've been made into an indoor concert venue. A stage would be erected in front of the stand and then you could have 17k people watching a band play infront of the pitch, the crowd could even be standing. Spurs are only allowed 5, i think, music events a year. But if a massive plastic wall came down from the roof and made it effectively indoors, different rules would apply to if the concerts were being held outside. Imo this would've been money well spent as we could have big crowds using the stadium a few times a week, not just once or twice a fortnight and again raises the profile of the stadium/ club.

Just reading about the Carillion debacle, didn’t realise they were involved in the new stand at Anfield. Hopefully Carillion were nowhere near any work for the new WHL?

One of the four remaining backplates on the South Stand went in last night. Only three more to go, and they can put the final concrete terracing in. Then it's all on to completing the compression ring.

They did originally have a solar roof and power generation included, making it a very green stadium. I would have loved that

It changed because the redesign by populous completely changed the roof design and the system selected (compression/tension ring) can't support the weight of solar panels on top of the roof across the whole stadium. It's a shame, but I think the club suggested that the materials being used for this roof have a reduced environmental impact compared with a more substantial roof structure offsetting some of the lost environmental benefit.

I was just browsing skyscrapercity and Hotspur Sam who I think is on Spurs Odessy says the event number is 16 non football, but under 10k attendance there is no limit at all. When we used West Ham corporate facilities in the past it was the cheapest in London of its type irrc at £5k per hour with a pitch view, much less in the non pitch view rooms and arsenal/Spurs considerably more per hour, arsenal charging the highest in London with the brand new facilities, which will now pass to us as the newest spec hires. With the hotel as well, very attractive.

I guess it remains to be seen what sort of event sizes can be held away from the pitch, and also if small events on the pitch can be held too.

That's interesting. I've got to admit I saw an advert at the weekend (it might have been at half time during our game) with Sean Dyche talking about some kind of course that's run at Wembley and The Emirates and was wondering if we'll get involved in that kind of thing once the stadium opens.

Levy has said they will defo be trying to use the stadium as many days of the year as possible, creating extra revenue streams. Although that may not be entirely up and running until the whole development is finished, including the transport.

That's the UCFB (football university!) - they operate at Wembley, Etihad and Turf Moor.

Is the UTC which was accreddited by Middlesex Uni still in Lillywhite House or was that replaced by the Academy of Excellence free school?

Wasn't it our head groundsman that helped Wembley with their pitch issues caused by the same thing, the pitch wasn't the problem the stadium design was, it's why they did something to the design of the emirates (IIRC) our design has achieved the same thing but without being so far from the pitch. (something like that)

i think he's been heavily involved in this pitch project and given we have a history of having very good playing surface i'd be surprised if he wasn't consulted when the stadium plans got announced, maybe one of reasons for some of the design changes (i'm guessing here) we changed architects didn't we?

Pitch needs more light/can we get more airflow to pitch level? (stuff like that) i mean first and foremost we are building a football stadium so the green bit should be priority (you'd think anyway)

All of the above is either my onions or my shrapnel cluttered memory.

Going back to this, this was on SSC today

Not only growing lights but also a sprinkler system and air system for when the pitch is stored.

I believe that 5 days is the limit.

So that’s answered that!

I saw Donna Cullen talking about e sports. Definitely think the plan is for an outdoor event. And they were quoting figures like £2-3m per event.

Fuck that. I'm not paying £2-3m to watch someone play a computer game.

Bearing in mind that they tried to put some up last week that were the wrong size, I hope Ikea haven't written the assembly instructions and part numbers!:eek: :p:p:p

If they can get an amendment to the licence to allow smaller music events then there’s no reason they can’t just set up a stage in front of the south stand. However I guess the restriction is also down to noise as opposed to attendance numbers.

They could use this set up though for stand up comedy and stage shows as well.

Your idea sounds cool though.
