The best way to upgrade any squad is improve the weakest player who plays significant minutes. Thats Sissoko for us, who has played 1600 minutes. Madisson can take up the position of Sissoko in squad and prove he is good enough to get more minutes. If Barkley & Willian be ready to play from bench, then so can Madisson. Also we know Dembele's injury woes. While he is perfect for a Eriksen like role, IMO he can certainly play the Dembele or Sissoko role as well.
I am not at all saying I am against this transfer, and if he would come in as a replacement for Sissoko then great. But Poch seams to rate Sissoko for some reason so wouldn't assume he is definitely for sale. Beyond that we have Lamela who is Eriksens no 2. My question was more a case of how does this transfer relate to the other, supposed big name transfer. Aside from that, how does it effect the introduction of Edwards into the team (assuming his loan goes well). I would be amazed if this kid came in and made an instant impact this season as it would take time to not only adjust to Poch's tactics but also playing in a top flight league. According to itk it sounds like he wants to be playing from the get go but I don't see how he would get many minutes at the moment.

He's homegrown, young and has created more chances than any player in Europe's top 5 leagues. Sounds the perfect backup to Eriksen. I don't see the problem.

Why do people keep referring to the English Second Division as one of Europe’s top 5 leagues?! Even if there is a stat saying so.....really? Surely the top 5 leagues would in any case be EPL, Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A, Ligue Un anyway

Not saying he won’t be a good player but there is a big step up from being a chance creator in the Chanpionship vs PL vs this statement I keep seeing suggesting it’s broadly equivalent

This is true. But what club the size of Spurs or bigger will give him those guarantees? Of course he may be happier to go to a lower ranked Prem team who may offer him more chances of first team football. Then the player will hope he plays well and eventually be snapped up by a top team. As @Hercules mentioned... Lots of clubs are in talks with the player so it comes down to persuading him we're the best option.

That's it in a nutshell, really.

He seems a bright lad who has thus far managed his early career extremely well, but sooner or later he will have to take a risk if he wants to make the next step up.

Choosing the right club to get game-time and to develop his skill-set will be critical.

They’re not, they’re saying he’s created more chances than anyone in the top 5 leagues, at no point has anyone said the championship is one of them leagues

Don't see why Maddison can't get minutes for us this season. Character wise he looks to have similarities to Dele which is great.

Had Barkley been fit we'd have signed him so surely there's room for another AM?

Well, we'll never know for certain. Would Levy have been happy to pay his agent's fee of £7m in order to complete the deal?

I'm not so sure he would.

There is no problem, and the fact he is home grown is great. I don't however put much faith in the stats tho as he is not putting up those numbers in a top 5 league. Knockheart last season looked fantastic but he has be the definition of Meh so far in the pl and Janssens numbers were very impress in Holland. I would prefer us to be looking at a player who could take us up a level straight away (but that might be an impossibility on our budget) and I would be worried about the amount of game time we could offer this kid but that's not my problem to deal with.

Although not long ago it was the most watched, with highest attendances, after the Prem and La Liga, not sure about now though.
I guess the importance of this is it may make the move to the Premier league less daunting.

The point is that it's a bit of an irrelevant statistic. You're comparing apples and pears. The amount of chance created in the Championship is irrelevant to what is done in Europe's top 5 leagues. The kid's certainly got talent, but churning out stats like this are about as helpful as the proverbial chocolate teapot.

Is there a player thread for this guy? Because the merits of whichever leagues you want to compare certainly isn't for this thread.

Is it?

And I ask that knowing the answer :shifty:

So it the general feeling that we're definitely interested in Sessegnon, Malcom and Maddison should any of them come available? We've had ITK on all three of those players but doesn't seem likely that either Malcom or Sessegnon will be able to join the squad in this window. Sign and loan back could be an option but don't know why either club would agree to a fee early only to announce in the summer (if that's the case from Hercules ITK regarding doing business to be announced through to the summer).

So the Jan transfer window closes on Wednesday the 31st of jan at 11pm. That gives Levy 14 days to deiced if he wants to fix his fax machine and set his alarm. Although we have had some pretty positive rumblings from the excellent Herc and JJ i would still be shocked if we manage to bring in anyone this window, at least anyone who wont be loaned back.

We are playing Man Utd at Wembley that day, deals probably need to be wrapped up considerably earlier, so even less time to work with. I agree it's very unlikely.

Looking at the ITK we have received so far I remain positive that we may bring in 1/2 which would be a great boost to the squad, however I also am prepared to see this window pass with no signings purchased as often is the case but for now I am staying hopeful.

You say that but that will still give Levy an hour and fifteen minutes before the deadline... For him that's a lifetime.

Rumour has it spurs (community) target Anthony Martial will be at wembeley on transfer deadline day to undergo a rigourus 90min session under the watchful eyes of manager Pochettino.

Couldn’t make ITK like this up.

Rob - any chance we can either replace the doh rating with, or even add, a ‘boring’ (yawn?) rating for the endless repetitive jokes?

My take is we've heard ITK from JJ/Herc that players prefer us over bigger money (Malcom & Arsenal) is my assumption and that we are ready to play ball but the other side needs to come to table and it matches up perfectly w/ Bordeaux not wanting to sell now.
