But if we're baulking at the transfer fee then surely Saints will too?

If he goes to Liverpool for big money then they need to be investigated because they are definitely not operating within their means.

Hopefully we go back in for him in the summer.
they have just got 140m in, i cant see 25m to 30m on Maddison making them breach any type of FFP and he wont want massive wages i would guess
Teams might think 25-30m for him is fair game if he gets into their first team

We scouted when he was at Coventry. Norwich got him for 3m...I guess they would want atleast 25m in this stupid market.
Sometimes, we got to take the punt like Dele. But then , its difficult with young players. Not many graduate to the top PL standards. IMO, Maddison will do it in top level...

Having said that, for such a high fee we could get far better talents from else where.

Who's to say he would have still become the same player? He wanted playing time when he moved from Coventry and we wouldn't have given him that. Sure 3 years ago we wanted to find the 5-10m player that would become a superstar like Dele with a 100m valuation. Now we're pressured to find the 20-30m player that can rise to 150m. "Crazy money." Times changing.

I shudder to think how much Norwich want considering how much we paid for a 21 year old Columbian centre back with only one year’s non uk experience in a similar level League. I’m guessing the £20m mooted is much less than the reality based on Herc’s (much appreciated) info.

They've already spent a chunk of that 140 on van Dijk and they are looking at the likes of Lemar. Anyway, not the thread for it.

I can understand dropping out if their asking too much. Just hope we're not missing out on a potential future star

Have we signed anyone yet or are we even close to anyone yet.....?
Stupid question I know in January.

Still all guesswork due to the understandably vague ITK posts but I'd hope that if Maddison/Sessegnon were conceivably the two who could push for the first team, that Moura wasn't the one who would definitely make a difference.

Club seem to be playing their cards close to their chest, as expected. Sorting out the current contracts I would imagine would be on the agenda before signings anyway.

Or that Dele Alli fella

Problem is now that even 'taking a punt' is around the £20m mark. The market has changed and that's why you'll see more players running their contracts down. Very few clubs will be able to pay the relative fees wanted by any club now.

Why would Norwich or Fulham sell their cash cows for less than say £30m? Someone will pay it eventually.

Still all positive, either now or summer!(y)

What we need to understand, Poch knows the spend budget he has for purchases, and add to that, he knows the wage budget. I can assure you it is a very good one, without selling. Though Daniel loves to get that out to get the selling club to cave ino_O

If Poch wants a player that had a budget value of say 20m, and we find out it is 30m, the club will back him. However, he knows that an excess 10m has been knocked off his total budget. Daniel will ask his views if he still wants to deal, making him aware also of his budget, if Poch still wants, we will do the deal.

Hope that makes sense.

Let’s hope Maddison doesn’t go to Liverpool and become the reverse Dele if you like.

Doesn’t fill me with confidence about Sessegnon either as I would imagine they don’t want to let him go on the cheap either.

Agree. I'm also worried that 'they want too much money' is going to be the recurring mantra and we'll end up not even getting the young up and coming players!!

£3m? Jeezuss!! Why didn't we just stump it up then? Ridiculous state of affairs!!

Not only does it make sense but I bet that Poch is a lot clearer on what he has available to him than a lot of fellow managers.

You are so wrong!

There is at least 2 players, not even mentioned in the media (up and coming) both here and abroad. As much as we want British talent, the VFM is excessive, becoming high risk. Look at the Swans CH (we know who I am referring to). That was a deal ready to be done, even his dad thought it was a done deal. His club was asking a ridiculous amount, not too different from Sanchez. Ajax wanted over 50m for him, but came to their senses at a total package of circa 43m, not including wages, but his wages is less than what this particular CH wanted through his agents, as well as unrealistic agents fee.

There is the dilemma. Great example; Maddison allegedly 25m with sell on fee, or Kluivert (example only peeps), at 20m with add-ons. But fee at say 18m. These are the discussions right across that take place, before we finally commit on our final choice. Always leaving room for that extra special signing in the budget. There goes a hint:rolleyes:...
