Regardless of selling Walcott and Sanchez, their glaring weakness is their aging, and already dubious defence, and no good defensive midfielder.

They aren't all that bad going forward generally but if you look at a lot of the goals they concede, it's due to xhaka ambling back and not tracking runners.

With Monreal, Mertesacker, Koscielny all the wrong side of 30 they are going to need to replace, especially when Holding and Chambers aren't up to the job. This, especially following the VVD transfer (and even our Sanchez) is going to cost North of £100m. Even replacing with Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang isn't really solving the issue as they are both relatively short term options with both being nearly 30.

Especially if they miss out on CL football again, they could be in real trouble. Let's hope eh...

Yep, spot on Steve.

They need to spend a lot of money on getting those defenders in. The would have been wise to buy Van Dijk.

Also, whilst Wenger is there he will be the one who decides on bringing the players in. They can update all their recruitment team all they want but if wenger doesn't want the player they won't sign him. He will want the praise for pulling off a new signing if it works out...

This is something I'd been thinking about today, especially with us being heavily linked to Malcolm and them seemingly dropping out. It's hard to deny that them getting Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan would be good business in some way. But it's short term. They're not building for years to come, they're not invested. They've not got that 'hot talent who'll only get better' or anything like that. It's one of the things they're seemingly falling behind on compared to the other top 6 clubs. Man City have players like Foden and buy young players like Jesus. Chelsea have 176 players on their books with loans and all their bullshit and a couple of them could turn out to be good young players. Man Utd have a fairly good youth set up and young players and Man Utd have a couple as well but Arsenal? Not really.

They've got an aging squad and they're not even close to addressing it... let alone the other areas that need strengthening in their squad. As a Spurs fan it's both fun but annoying to watch cause you get that feeling it is just all gonna well and truly fall apart... but when?

Gooner fans claim Reiss Nelson is that talent, but again he's an attacker/winger and certainly not an answer to any defensive problems the side has now or will have in both the very near and the long-term future if they aren't addressed.

He's progress to a decent level due to natural ability but the moment he needs to push on and then he'll stagnate due to negligent coaching.

Their midfield is so frail it's ridiculous.

If they don't sign a bulldozer in the summer I think they will be ripped apart next season. Either that or try to copy Pool's tactics, which Wenger won't.

:sneaky:Do you think we'd let them have Sissoko, if they paid enough that is:whistle:

I'm not sure whether that's completely true any more. Supposedly Wenger is not that keen on Mkhitarian and Aubameyang and they're the new German guy's targets. I think even thoguh they've kept him on, there has been a realisation that they need to start delegating some of his duties to prepare for when he does leave

That is the only reasin he would sign a new contract. He has thrown his toys out the pram trying to orchestrate a move.

But unlike Sanchez no one wants him.

He has probably screwed himself because if he had no takers then there is no pressure for Arsenal to improve his terms and they could probably offer new contract on lower terms although this could demotivate him even more

Knowing Arsenal they will probably double his wages though.
I think he'll end up at United with Sanchez.

Mourinho clearly isn't sold on Martial and with Mkhitaryan out the door I can see him being next out. Honestly think Mourinho and Ozil have met and it's all been verbally agreed.

All that remains is to cross the 'T's and dot the 'eyes'

A fans comment from tonight's Borussia Dortmunds Facebook page tonight, they are playing Herta Berlin ...

Translated via Google...

I see it formally in front of me: Auba ... How he sits nicely in the warm living room ... His smartphone in one hand ... A little umbrella drink in the other hand ... And every now and then he may even look in the direction of TV where the game is running ... But that does not really interest him ...!

If they sell Coquelin, they sell their only proper DM. Will make even more hilarious seeing Xhaka picking up red cards.

Coquelin went to Valencia in the week... He's a goner not a Gooner.

Sorry Hakkz, just noticed you were notified elsewhere. Another £11mill for the Arsenal treasure chest.

Why do they need Aubameyang when they've just bought Lacazette? Surely it would also force Giroud out?

I noticed that the Arse Mania thread on Malcom was closed and locked last night.

Didn't Mourinho sell him to Arsenal at Madrid?

Ozil also had something in his book about Mourinho critisizing him (accurately) as a player that believes all he has to do in a game is deliver one beautiful pass then his job is complete and he can stop trying.

Selling Giroud is a bit silly, great plan B to have especially with defences dropping deep when Arsenal are trying to get back in the match...how many last minute winners has he scored and how many times has he come off the bench to score, they should keep him.
