Speaking on Norwegian radio show Heia fotball, Hangeland recalled: 'I only played with him for six months but here's a quick story. I was playing for Fulham and he played for Spurs.

'We were attacking and I was marking Adebayor in the midfield. He suddenly he said, 'Ahhh, I'm hungry.' I replied, 'What?'

''I can't wait for the game to finish, I'm so hungry,' he said. Do you know a good restaurant in London, Hangeland?'

The former centre-back, who retired from professional football in August 2016, managed to stay focused on his game during that particular battle but was reminded of the striker's insatiable appetite when the pair were reunited at Selhurst Park.

'Later when he came to Palace I started to realise where this came from,' Hangeland continued. 'When we had strength workouts he would sit in the gym with just a cup of coffee and a muffin.

'He was being paid by [Manchester] City, Tottenham and Palace at the same time, and he was sitting in the gym drinking coffee. Incredible natural talent, but very lazy.'

So there we have it lol, we all knew he was a lazy bugger, also he was STILL getting paid by City even when he was at Palace. @Mullers FYI.

Wasn't this story going around about two years ago?

Hangeland has quite a mouth on him. A few years back he slagged off all kinds of former teammates on Norwegian radio or a podcast or something IIRC. I've heard this story before so it might've all been part of the same rant.

He’s kind of obsessed with gym work and those lads who didn’t spend as long as him in there.
Maybe those who weren’t as slow as an oil tanker turning didn’t need to be constantly pumping iron though, Brede?

The image of Craig Bellamy saying, "You fucking wanker" having never spoken to or met him before is making me laugh. I actually quite like Bellamy when he's on Sky Sports, which took me a while to come to terms with, as I was convinced he'd chat shit.

Hunger you say.

Appetite for football Ade, appetite for football.

Clearly not hungry enough at times.

I'd imagine that pretty much all footballers hate gym work. Would they rather be out on the pitch perfecting their skills or doing conditional work?? Or if your Jesse Lingard, pratting around on social media

Reminds me of that story about Neil Ruddock. He's in the gym meant to be working on his fitness on the running machine but as soon as the physio's back is turned he's off for a bacon roll and a cup of tea. Few min before the physio returns he jumps back on the running machine and throws water all over himself to make it look like he's been working so hard the sweat's literally pouring off of him.
