You can do 3 CBs + 1 DM, which I believe Pochettino is strating to be leaning towards for matches vs. certain teams.

Agreed. Poch has toyed with a 3 man midfield a few times this season in both 3 and 4 at the back formations. Probably with attacking reinforcements in mind.

Wanyama/Dier
Eriksen/Winks Dele/Dembele

It's a good option. With 3ATB you have 2 forwards, with 4 you have 2 wide forwards.

Plus part of the reason for reinforcements is very much to have first XI worthy players to bring on in tight games.

I have to say, while Malcolm clearly would be a positive addition to the squad, for an immediate impact in an area where we are clearly lacking Mahrez would be a perfect addition. Teams below 7th know that we struggle to cope with "parking bus" tactics and can look to hit us with long ball counterattacks. Mahrez has a great ability to influence games in the final third against very good defences, has the trickery and work rate, and is not heavily reliant on physical ability. He's 26/27.The list goes on. His contract winding down.

But breaking news : apparently Liverpool in for him - must be some big number based on the Cutinho fee - a neat replacement.

Should have gone for him in the summer window.

Bielsa, his old mentor, developed a 3133 system that could morph quickly into a 3331 and other variations.

We're buying the player, not the team.
Yeah, so he’ll be really used to winning tight matches when we rock up to Old Trafford or Chavski? I’m talking about that minuscule ‘edge’. He may well have it though and will be able impart that on the rest of the team. Because right at the moment we haven’t quite got it. That also comes from success.

I do like how Poch tries different things, helps with the fluidity of our setups.

Agreed. They don't all come off, but it's experimenting with an aim to learn, not just "run around a bit".

Looking at the Youtube videos only, Malcom does remind me of Townsend with the 'cut inside + leather it'. His seem to go in, though.

A winger with end product and, if those stats from earlier can be replicated, a neat final ball too - the very idea of it makes me smile.

Sounds bad but I’d like a proven winner. From another team or another league. Someone who is used to lifting trophies. I realise we have 1 or 2 within the squad but I’d like someone who can illustrate to the rest just what it takes mentally.

Malcom may well be excellent (or not), but I wish we were getting him from a successful team and not a struggling one. Hopefully though the guy can be a star.

Quite a few of our squad have won things with other sides in other leagues - Toby, Sanchez, Vic, Llorente, Jan, Dembele, Eriksen, Aurier. Most of them have won more than one trophy as well. Kane hasn't won anything yet, but he's definitely got the right mentality and inspires the rest of the team. Dier seems to have something about him as well.

The long shots catch the eye but for me it's the cute through balls and his quick burst of acceleration when receiving the ball that stand out to me.

Malcom's clips when playing for Corinthians is far more superior than to Bordeaux clips ...You can see his real potential & IMO, he can be certainly world class. His chances created & key passes outweighs most inverted wingers today. If we get him IMO, he could be far better than Sonny & more impactful than Dele.

As I said, IMO...
Do you really think we would be willing to pay 40m + 10m for a unknown 20 year old in Ligue1 if he didnt have world class potential ? Very fact, we are willing to splash such huge cash (for our club), it means we are more than convinced of the impact he could make.

How much do you think we would charge for Son or Alli in this transfer window?

Both are established players in their own way. Of course they will be far more than Malcom. I am just saying we are prepared to pay shit load of money for someone who is relatively unknown in French league...It just means we should see him as a world class potential. We are not going to spend this much if his ceiling doesnt even going to match Sonny

We shouldn't see him as world class potential at all imo, that's putting unnecessary pressure on him. There's no telling how he'll adapt to the league, new country etc yet.
