commendable from Poch but:
1. it really looked like several players weren't quite there physically
2. using something like this as an excuse does relieve a bit of pressure by reducing the hand wringing from journos and fans alike.

You have to ask why if some players were displaying signs of infection, they were still allowed to travel. They infected the rest of the squad.

I feel Poch is being canny when he says some players got a virus before going to Barca. It would undermine his decision to go over there as a mistake. You are most at risk when you change climates and at airports.

he's right, because we could have still won had he made the right chances. abysmal starting and sub patterns

He doesn't tend to make excuses, I think so that players don't feel sorry for themselves.

@davidmatzdorf : I see your disagreements and am keen to know why. Do you not feel that players showing signs of illness should have been kept apart from others? This is what happened when that Norovirus episode occurred, the infamous "Lasagne-gate".

Poch didn't want to blame it on the sunshine, the moonlight, we didn't have a good time, and he didn't even want to blame it on the bogey!

Most of the transmission of colds, influenza, measles and other highly infectious viral diseases takes place before the initial sufferer is aware that they are ill. Before there are symptoms, or in the very early stages. Once the body's immune systems are activated, the expression of the virus is reduced.

I'm not sure if food-borne viruses are similar, but it's so of airborne viruses.

Not quite. I've spoken to a friend who's an infectious disease specialist. While there is an incubation period when the person may not feel ill, they are certainly infectious when they have symptoms. So, if you have an airborne virus like chicken pox, they are infectious until the spots crust over. That was what I was told when I got chicken pox. I think infected a whole train carriage, but developer my first spot when I got home.

I think our posts are not mutually exclusive.

I think our posts are not mutually exclusive.

They are: While still sick, colds and flu is communicable via contact. The more contact you have before and after symptoms, and irrespective of at what time, the more likely transmission. If your coworker comes into work Tuesday, and definitely certain of a cold mid-afternoon, I don't say "ah, well, see you tomorrow, then, since I am already exposed."

As for the norovirus, it is not solely food-borne.

If someone is sick, they should stay away from vulnerable love ones, coworkers, etc. To do otherwise is irresponsible.

Is Sissoko to blame for the transmission?;)
