Why aren't we targeting these young players who come to Europe, instead of waiting two years to pay a premium for them?

If you can’t see that they’ve overtaken us this season in the quality of their football (due largely to the success of their big money signings) then I can’t help you.

We’re behind them now, and we’ll be behind them at the end of the season. I’d be delighted to bet money on that with anyone naive enough to think otherwise.

Why would want to win a bet like that

Come on guys, give our club some credits. We are opening the biggest club stadium in London next season ffs.

Are some of you really going down the route of those trash journalists in slamming Levy's and Co's financial prudence?

The market has been spoilt. In no fault of the club that we are keeping the cash to spend on the highest value perceived. We are in fact improving in pink financial health, if recent accounting reports showed we are the up one place to 11th richest club in the world is correct. This just backed whatever the club has been doing is being run positively.

And we spent 42mil on a 20-year-old Sanchez just this summer. Was that not enough to show?!

Why's that?
Think he's a better dribbler the Malcom and might/should cost less amongst other things. I've seen more of Malcom then Neres as I have said earlier in this thread so could well be wrong but Neres seemed to me to have a little more of what we are lacking. Lozano would also be an exciting option from Holland even though he is a little older but that's nether here nor there. Neres or Malcom would both be good buys.

We currently don’t spend at the level of most other clubs in percentage terms. Net spend is the lowest in the league and has been basically zero for the last five seasons. Even a net +£30 a season million could have pushed us on ...

NET SPEND MEANS NAFF ALL!!!!!

Part of why we have been able to spend so little in terms of net is that we've sold players for really good money. Not only players like Bale and Modric, but we've also fetched good sums for the majority of less lucrative outgoings. When you fetch the kind of money that we did for Bale, and you churn the cash 100% for squad players, then you can proceed with buying and selling without a gross spend. Furthermore, I think there can be no doubt that we are seeing a shift in the transfer approach (finally, one might say) eg. fees for Sissoko and Sanchez, and I commend the club for that. The only further thing I would wish for is a bold January transfer.

Good for them. Chelsea have the resources to stockpile dozens of youth prospects and I wouldn't want us doing anything like them thanks.
If it clearly works, why would you not want to do that? That makes no sense. Oscar, Lukaku, De Bruyne, Salah, Nathan Ake, and I'm sure there are more I'm forgetting. Now of course they had a coach that refused to grow and develop these players themselves but it's clearly a strategy that works. It's like if the Portuguese clubs had the funds to hold onto their talent or Monaco. We just did it with Foyth.

I don't know what you're on about. Someone brought up the idea of buying young players with potential and sending them overseas for years to get European nationality for a work permit. That's what I was referring to.

You said you wouldn't want to do anything like them, when what you're saying you don't want to do is part of what makes them so successful.
