I suspect Arsenal’s issue is that their owners have stockpiled £300 million in cash to help them secure loans for other businesses.

We definitely have some banking restrictions/covenants on account of the new stadium. Exactly what they are and how similar they are or are not to The Gooners I don’t know, but they do exist.

Unfortunately the way it is when you are trying to compete with teams far more affluent. That's why we need to be more creative in our dealings and approach to transfers.
Also, we're in the unusual position of having an incredibly good first 11 - as good as anyone but City, and arguably competitive with then - but pay considerably lower wages and transfer fees than the other big five PL clubs.

Which means that an upgrade on our starters means (1) getting someone of the same quality that the other big five are looking for, yet (2) without paying the same money that the other five can and do pay.

If you're, say, Everton (to take the next biggest club, I guess), then you just don't have that problem.

Also, because we can't afford to just write off a £40m player if he doesn't work out, it's even more important that we are careful to ensure our transfers do work out. Again, not a problem if you're spending far less money.

Deadline day written all over it.
Assuming they want to deal. Their president has been enjoying the press and talking a lot about any transfer for Malcom. Whether he hopes to silence it, make a point, or just a deer in headlights who knows?

The weirs games presidents play in the press are generally baffling. Can't see the point in saying they've not had talks with us because that won't drive a bigger bidder. Can only assume he is sending a message to Malcom/Agent that he's not selling.

I'm fairly sure that, during negotiations for a player, the potential buying club often asks the potential selling club to say that there are no negotiations. Which can help the buyer.

Don’t take it personal. Go back and read my response re their president’s statement
He's clearly having a joke and you're getting the wrong end of the stick. I know it's got you all worked up, but relax dude.
