I would have posted this in the Lamela thread, but it seems to have been closed. If it isn't can one of the mods please move it there.

This is a wonderful interview with Erik Lamela.

He comes across as such a lovely, humble, down-to-earth guy. His stories about the hardships of seeing his brother hurt, losing his dog, and being injured, and then the joyous moment his son was born are really touching and a profound insight into the roller coaster ride that is life.

Oh, and he also addresses those rumours whose discussion caused the closure of the other threads. Quelle surprise, they're utter bullshit.

I teared up a bit. What he’s gone through over the past year is so awful:(

I love Lamela and this just makes me root for him to prove everyone wrong even harder. Really hope he does it. He deserves to come out on top.

Thanks for posting.

Sounds as if he really has his head screwed on. Have always liked him.

Poch just bringing him back slowly after so long out and likes to keep faith in players rather than any distrust of Lamela imho.

Hope it steps up now and we see more of him.

Hopefully some folk on here are feeling pretty shamed. All the best Érik.

Agreed - I'd love for some of the posters who banged on about drugs, etc. come on here and admit they were full of s*ite.

But that's a debate for another thread.....

Great article. It did seem like there was a big question mark over whether he was coming back so this really clears things up. He had a really hard time for a while.

Lamela and Tainio are the two players I've most wanted to do well with us. Really hope he can get back to his pre-injury form.

Lovely read, insightful. Feel bad for Erik, hope he works things out, but a child is great for perspective

Still think he’ll be off end of contract tho. “I’m not thinking about it” is just a straight bat. Is clearly desperate to go back to Argentina and you’d expect him to raise his kid there

That’s the sort of move you make in the twilight of your career isn’t it? It’s more likely he’ll renew his contract here or move back to Italy first.

Potentially, who knows. Complicated, as the interview makes clear. I wouldn't for a second think I could put myself in his shoes.

But yes, you're probably right. He could see out his contract, do a few years in Italy and head back to River Plate a hero in time for school start.
