What's amazing is the fact he was crap in front of goal last night but was still utterly brilliant. I can't imagine any other striker in the world having such a mare with their finishing but still being one of the best players on the pitch.

I imagine Jose was looking at Kane and then looking at Lukaku and thinking "oh, crap".

Lukaku barely seemed capable of matching Kane's movement, desire and willingness to chase lost causes.

I love the fact that Kane didn’t score and yet was the epitome of a world class striker - absolutely bullied Jones and Smalling, held the ball up and used it well, pulled both of them all over the pitch - had them running scared. Could’ve easily scored a couple but still contributed massively even without doing so.

Meanwhile up the other end £197bn Lukaka got totally schooled by Sanchez and Verts, looked like a useless lump rather than one of the most expensive forwards in world football.

To be fair to Lukaku, he came closer to scoring than Kane did. Don't get me wrong, I'd take Kane, but I think the biggest difference was the amount of service one got compared to the other. The one time Lukaku got a sniff, he bullied Davies and got a good shot off which was well saved by Lloris.

I think Kane's a better all round package for sure, his mentality alone is immense, but I think Lukaku is a decent version of their type too.

The thing which got me, was a moment around the 70-75minute mark, where we weren't putting the third goal in to kill the game. I thought, united are bound to have a spell at some point, we could be in trouble if they manage to nick a goal!

But nothing came of it, we didn't score, but we also did not relent at all! We kept our foot tightly on their throat and gave them nothing, right to the end!

Also a note to Jose for his post-match interview: the most gracious i've seen him in defeat for a long time! I thought he was going to come out whining, but fair play to him, he gave an honest appraisal - thier mistakes cost them and they were exactly where we wanted them from then on....

Maybe because most of those chances was manufactured by Kane himself by his movement and his instincts to get in the tright area at the right time, Lukaku's movement isn't anywhere near Kane's which is why the chances he gets are few and far between. He had a supporting cast of Pogba, Sanchez, Martial and Lingard and despite the service not being up to par Lukaku simply doesn't do enough.

thought everyone played very well, probably Son and Kane were a little below some of there recent performances but were still excellent, good to see Dembele and Trip back to their best, only complaint is that it should have been 4-5
just need to show the same hunger and ambition Sunday

He’s decent, good enough to play at the top of the game, but that’s as far as I’d go - he’s just not that Uber striker he’s made out to be - he doesn’t score enough or contribute enough otherwise for me. He’s the sort of player I’d be happy to have at Spurs, but would be looking at Kane if he was elsewhere and saying to myself “that’s the kind of level Lukaku will never reach, and the kind of player we’ll never be able to get”.

Excellent team performance. As mentioned, hard to mark anyone under 7.5/8.

Lloris solid when called upon. Trippier was excellent, particularly in the first half. Sanchez superb. Vertonghen imperious. Davies solid against Martial. Dier had one of his best games in midfield, composed on the ball and strong defensively. Dembele back to his best. Dele and Son weren't at their best in the final third, but their work rate and movement were top level. Kane not as clinical as usual, but his hold up play was superb. But the king pin was Eriksen; incredible work rate coupled with slick, clever movement and passing. His finish was fantastic too.

Not even close for me. On another day Kane had a hatrick last night. His shooting was inexplicably below par last night.

Overall he's a far superior forward to Lukaku.

Lukaku is nowhere near Kane's level as an overall number nine. Fedinand nailed it when he said there is no comparison.

Lukaku's work rate is abysmal. I think he and Alexis will struggle to work together against top competition. They may run up the score on bad teams though.

I thought it was close between Eriksen, Vertonghen, and Trippier for MOTM, but then Delete kicked Sanchez for no reason so he gets my vote.

Not sure what is funnier - changing your vote for Dele kicking Sanchez, or Dele - autocorrecting (?) to Delete...

.

Definitely an autocorrect.

It was a shame Sanchez didn't react. He did look like he might cry at one stage.

The biggest misconception is that Lukaku is an all round uber striker. He doesn’t like playing back to goal, and isn’t really good at it. He’d much rather play off the shoulder on the inside right channel, like a Jamie Vardy. But because of his size all the teams he’s played for try to make him into a target man.

Guys, guys, guys read what I said, I'd take Kane too. No argument. I'm not playing devils advocate here. Kane is a phenomena. All I said was:

I think Kane's a better all round package for sure, his mentality alone is immense, but I think Lukaku is a decent version of their type too.

I also think Lukaku would be a better all round player than he is now if he'd spent the last 4 years under Poch at Spurs.

@Bus-Conductor has really hit the nail on the head here. I also agree with a lot of the other comments as well around Eriksen, Verts, Sanchez, Trippier... fuck it, everyone.

It was strange to see Kane not hit one cleanly all night, and Son and Alli be so good in getting into positions, making the extra effort in runs, press, etc. but both of their final pass or shoot decision-making was average. Oh well, we got away with it in that department.

Loved all the bullying of A.Sanchez in particular. Some of the challenges flying in on him were Dave Mackay highlight reel stuff. Davies was possessed - it was amazing!
