Dembele MoTM there should be little room for argument about that, it's a crying shame that he's not 5 years younger and carrying less long term injuries that mean he needs to be managed carefully, he was an absolute beast today, and bossed that midfield with grace composure and aplomb, a joy to watch.

For all the talk of Wilshere being this great midfielder (I’ve never witnessed it), why isn’t Dembele held in such esteem?
I think Wilshere was thought of as England's best creative midfielder in the absence of anyone else at the moment. He then sank without trace at Bournemouth.
But you have to give it to him today - he was their best player by far and if he continues this form I think he has a chance for a place in the WC in the summer - a dream midfield pairing of Dier and Wilshere perhaps.
I feel dirty.....

If Dembele keeps his current form I guess he too has a good chance for a place in the WC and that might be what is driving him on.

your marks especially Dembele getting a 7 I am very confused :)
Marked down because of trying to thread the ball through a centre, where there are 6 defenders, to find a player who will then touch it on to create a chance. It's a one in a hundred tactic. It then leads to an Arsenal break and unnecessary pressure.

With Trips and Davies in such space and great form, those are the obvious avenues to create chances.

Does anyone remember Jan Molby at Liverpool? Quite similar to Dembele, not as dominant on the ball, but with better ideas on when and where to release it.

Easily Dembele. Everyone was excellent. Lamela gets additional honors for winding up Wilshere from the time he entered the game. Wonderful all around.

I think I could be as right on Lamela as I was with Gomes.

My verdict on Gomes, to the consternation of many on here, was that he was too erratic, had poor judgement on interceptions and that flashy saves were no compensation for that.

With Lamela, I think it's shown England doesn't suit him. We've seen very few of the qualities that were at Roma. The biggest sign is the amount of yellows he picks up, something I see as over-compensation for not being a goal scorer. I'd be surprised if he doesn't start season 2019 in Italy.
Lamela was probably our best player the little time he was on. 2 Great chances himself and an extremely nice set-up for deles chance... Always works his socks off, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he was included om the starting 11

It’s fair enough if England lack midfielders now but he was being mentioned in the same breath as Gazza!

Poor opposition. 1-0 flatters them. Last ten minutes unnecessarily nail biting.
Team more than the sum of its parts today which is how it should be.
More or less total control for most of the game.
Who were they?

Lloris.........7.......Stealing a living st Spurs these days.
Trippier......7.......Good, Lacks pace and height and Walkeresque crossing. But still good.
Sanchez....7+......It's his legs. Always looks wobbly to me.Disaster never quite happens.
Verts..........8........Solid again, set like cement.
Davies.......7+......Beautiful cross and becoming well hard.
Dembele....9........Take back everything I have said about him. Excellent. needs goal or assist for 10
Dier...........7+.......Nothing spectacular but steady performance
Eriksen......7+......Hard work but nothing out of the ordinary
Dele...........7+......Under control today and a good shift.
Son............7........Never quite pulled anything off but a threat.
HK..............7........Scored the winner but missed a couple.

Lamela.....A shout out for him. Cheeky boy but I like him. Should have scored.

Dembele with Davies a close second, what a player he's turned into.

But Dembele has been monstrous last 3 games (listen to tinky ) and absolutely bossed that second half. He's releasing the ball quicker and pinging forward passes with more zip now as well, what a player.

Only gripe (again) is not converting our dominance and complete superiority in that second half which could well of cost us in the dying minutes.

But what a performance in the second half, and Lamela produced an outstanding cameo, tenacity and then the vision to put Dele through one on one.

Score line should of read 3 at the very least, just need to take a fraction more care when the big moment arrives and put teams to the sword as the game was never over at 1-0 despite our dominance.

There's my point; the two great chances.

In Italy, one gets a goal. Here, not for the first time, nothing. Ends 20 minutes with another yellow.

Comparison to Paul Stewart, bought by Venables as a dominant striker from City(you tell yer kids that nowadays, and they won't believe yer), who then couldn't score goals in the old 1st Div, and got relegated to midfield. There, he was more influenctial and scored the winning goal in the 1991 FAC final. So, here's hoping.

For me Dembele's performance was the standout one - MOM.

Lloris - 7 - Nothing to do apart from the save for Wilshire's strike
Trippier - 8 - Kept tight to Mkhitaryan, and supported the attack well
Sanchez - 7 - A good first half & most of second. Looked a little shaky near the end
Verts - 8 - For me Jan is fast becoming my player of the season. Another impressive display!
Davies - 8.5 - Done his job, Mr dependable lovely cross to set up Kane for the goal

Dembele - 9.5 - A wonderful game from this so called "washed up and finished player"
Dier - 7 - Got stuck in, and helped control the midfield

Eriksen - 7 - Was closed out in the first half, due to the arsenal defensive shape. Better in the 2nd, cracking free kick!
Son - 7 - Was wasteful, and not his recent prolific self. Rightly subbed
Dele - 8 - Worked bloody hard off the ball, and looked a lot stronger today. should of had a goal!

Kane - 8.5 - Only reason he isn't the MOM is because he could have had a hat trick today, but it was another inspired performance nonetheless. Best striker in the world imho.

Lamela - 6.7 - Loads of energy, got in Wilshire's face, and picked up a yellow for his troubles. Erik is getting back to what we know
Wanyama - 6.5 not on long enough to really influence the game.

With Lamela the issue is: we paid up to £30m for a slinky winger who scored goals, a player to open up defences. We've still got a player who has regressed to firming up midfield and getting many more cards than goals.
This is such a nonsense criticism. It’s not Lamela’s fault you didn’t realise what kind of player we were signing. We signed Eriksen in the same window - are you going to criticise him for not being a slinky winger?

I believe if you can be part of 3 great chances in 30 minutes vs Arsenal then all hope is not lost...

Sorry you are not allowed to give Dembele less than 9 today... He basically ran the game and dominated Ozil, Miki and Wiltshire a man against boys!!

Don't talk shit.

How was Eriksen anything like a slinky winger? Lamela hasn't even lived up to Chadli.

Lamela's reputation was as a wide player, cutting in, very skilful, scoring 15 league goals for Roma. That's near to what we paid £25m for.

Not a bloke with about 10 times more yellows than goals.

The more he is acerbically defended, as was Gomes, more obvious he will be back in Italy next year.
