From a Man Utd forum. Discussing us yesterday and Dembele's play:

True. He's unreal but I think the difference poch makes to players is
icon_uhoh.gif
dembele was good before but he's gone up a level.

Schneiderlin is insane. Clogger to quality performer to clogger again. Sell him for £25m , buy the superior Wanyana for £11m.

City take your right back for £50m? Trippier ready to come in. Might lose your left back for £50m? Davis ready to rock. Thank god we didn't let him get Shaw back.

I'm sure he'll get a tune out of Moura too. Not as though we need a right winger? We need a big name of course.

Smashed Man Utd at wembley, played pool of park at anfield 3 days later imo. Smashed Arsenal at wembley 3 days later. Coiled for Juve this week.

They're a machine down there atm, at least we're not Arsenal fans.

Looking forward to work tomorrow. My manager is a United fan and will be pretty pissed off after their loss today, he was in full on meltdown mode during our game on WhatsApp so this should be funny.

There's a gooner at work he was convinced they were gonna smash us up, I look forward to seeing him.

There's another gooner who I don't really know but proceeds to rub it in my face if they've won and we've dropped points. I don't even know the fucker yet he's being a twat? Why are people like that? When the results have been reversed and I've seen him I haven't said a damn thing. Might just start chuckling to myself if I see him tomorrow.

Is this our peak? Will we not get any better? Our squad is a young squad and improving. Our youth personnel is stuffed to the gills with potential. We won't even begin to fulfill our potential off the pitch until the stadium has been up and running for a few seasons - and will that have a knock-on effect on-pitch. As said in another thread - we have been building the launch pad, now we are ready for take-off!

[Spurs won't get any better]...but we will. Will you? Are you so sure of that? You won't get that much better until Klippity realises he has to tailor his defensive unit to English football's requirements. Has he done that so far? Liverpool are now the fifth best financed club in England and, in terms of everything but finances, behind the sixth best financed club, Spurs in just about every other way. I see no immediate improvement in sight - just a blind faith that Klippity has bought you some great attacking football, while totally unbalancing his team, so if his spends some more money that is inherently going to be less that United, City, Chelsea and ArseAnal can spend, all will come well.

Failed to get second...blah blah blah...two horse race...blah blah blah. Leicester finished above everyone that season...not just Spurs (you fucking plank). It will probably be Liverpool's best chance of winning the league in year', too - it's just that we got closer than you. Perhaps that is because it was so early in Poch's building process (y'know the building process you are deifying for Klippity...who is now further into his building process that Poch was, but further away from the top). Blah blah bloody Scouse BS blah. PS - squad building is an ongoing process, didn't watching the detested Ferguson even teach the most knowledgeable fans in the World that!

The only real players we have been buying are squad players... LoL. That is because our young and improving 1st team, y'know, the one that finished above Liverpool in seven of the last eight seasons, is pretty good. The common refrain all Spurs fans have become familiar with has been that our first team was great but we had no squad depth. So..yeah...we bought squad players. What would you have done you pea-brained Mickey twat? Bought one over budget player every season? Besides, they has been far more to our buying policy than buying squad players. We have bought some potentially excellent young players. And Poch has said we are in a new phase of buying...looking for genuine 1st team players now. Scouse plank!

Klippity has slowing been buying and moulding the team he wants...and is still three or four players shy. I'll say. Three or four players, and does that include a defensive unit? Just because Klippity was able to buy and mould a team over several seasons in a one-horse race in Germany, it doesn't mean he will be able to succeed in a league with different requirements and four teams who can outspend him and another one that is better in just about every other way than finances, ATM.

Talk to me when Klopp has the starting XI he wants - LoL. Poch started making Spurs competitive immediately, with hardly no players he wanted. Even when he had to freeze 1st team players out and play untested youth. Difference in mentality...and Poch's is better than constantly justifying lack of competitiveness on not having the players he wants.

when that happens
[Klippity gets the four players needed for first team presumably]. But what if he doesn't? What if he suddenly realises he needs another one - always easy to do when success isn't attained. Rodgers achieved more in the amount of time than Klippity has. How long before his position is in jeopardy? Oh, no, sorry, that will be never, as you have blind and absolute faith in Klippity. But never had the same in Rodgers? LoL.

I guarantee you we'd have won a hell of a lot more than Tottenham have. What, starting from today? Okay, will file away for future reference. :)

p.s. Yeessssssssss, Newcaslte 1 Manchester United Nil. ???What does Valencia have to do to get sent off???

People have been saying this is our peak for three years

Same with me, I was speaking with 2 of the gooners at work and one asked me what I thought the score would be, I said 3-1 to us and he was in hysterics, like I'd just told him the craziest thing he'd ever heard. The reaction was so strange, I was like wait there, how is that so unrealistic? You've lost to Swansea and Bournemouth in the last few weeks! Of course, the new signings had gotten to their heads and they thought they were world beaters without yet showing anything of the sort. Even Claude on Arsenal Fan TV said they got carried away with the Everton win and I thought as much at the time, I've seen Everton enough this season to know they can be really, really shit at times.

Can't wait to see them at work now. I don't normally say that much and prefer talking reasonably with other football fans, even with the Arsenal ones but I'm gonna dig it in when I go back, I can still hear that guys laugh when I said what I thought the score would be.

Disappointing levels of banter from my Arsenal supporting mates, almost to a man they have gone into their respective holes and are ignoring any kind of discussion!

So what are they saying? Nothing!

I can honestly say I haven't bothered giving it large to any of the Woolwichers I know.

They have disappeared from social media since the final whistle yesterday, it is as if they have been teleported somewhere or crawled up their own arses.

Smugly enjoying this inner peace and contentment.

Agree with the last bit!

I certainly haven’t been giving it large but have tried to engage with a couple who are particularly active everytime we drop points or don’t win the league...and nothing back at all!

Don't get me wrong - if and when the running dogs do turn up I'll respectfully remind them they are a basket case at the moment. (In so many other words)

It was 1977 not 1978 when we got relegated, The season in Div 2 was the first season i started to watch the skills of a young Glenn Hoddle mixed in with the very ordinary John Pratt, John Lacy and Don McCallister and may more...
Yep, 1977. Spurs v Sunderland was a 1-1 draw which effectively sent us down.

You stirred up some memories...

Was at that game and we knew what it meant at the time. Sunderland were relegated with us that season. Went to Roker Park just a few months after that when we were both in Div 2. Horrible place, we all got chased onto the pitch, completely outnumbered we had no other choice, no police protection, and we got a right old kicking.

It was like a scene from MASH on that pitch. Mate got his jaw or cheekbone smashed up, can't remember which. Do remember he lost his hearing for a while. Had to stay overnight at the hospital with him. There were a few other Tottenham in that hospital.

I just remember the cold! It was winter and fucking cold! His mum and dad drove all the way up from London and picked us up early on the Sunday morning. The drive back to London was the longest, most silent drive of my life.

Mate couldn't talk, he was skull-bandaged up to fuck, and his parents didn't want to talk to me much. They were angry at the both of us.

Well, to be fair you were wrong, so hardly Confucius are you? We won by one goal. In fact, at home, there’s only been 3 North London derbies in the premier league era that had more than a goal in them, and two of them we lost. A draw or a 1 goal win either way was always most likely outcome.

I saw loads of spurs fans crowing that we’d win 3 or 4 nil. Great showing that it was, worth remembering we didn’t rack up that score. Whereas Arsenal in their pomp regularly whopped us by 3 or 4 at their place

Whether I was right or wrong is not even the issue, it's the response I got to a suggestion that IMO wasn't overly farfetched. And how many times in the history of the Premier League era can you say that we have been supposedly this good, and Arsenal supposedly as bad? Just because history says one thing, that involves completely different sets of players and circumstances between the two respective teams, doesn't mean that it automatically has a bearing on the present state of affairs. My estimation was based on how the teams stood on the day and like said, I'd have no problem with someone completely disagreeing with my prediction and being adamant that it wouldn't be like that, that's completely fine, but I don't think it warranted the hysterical laughter it got. And for the record, in case you're putting me amongst the 'spurs fans' you saw, I wasn't crowing at all.

And to me it's strange that you use the fact that it was a great showing from us despite us only winning 1-0 to reinforce your point as I believe it reinforces mine. Is a 3-1 suggestion to a game so bad when in truth it actually should have been about 5-0? Even if it didn't end 5-0, it just goes to show that how I envisioned the game to be wasn't far off how it actually was.

Spurs fans living on should have beens again. We nearly drew that game and then its just Liverpool - a decent result tinged with disappointment.

Just like almost winning the title isn’t winning the title, the way a game plays out and the result are quite often not related.

Arsenal beat us 2-0 at theirs, despite not playing as well as we did this weekend.

So no, I don’t agree. It doesn’t reinforce your point at all. I think it’s very telling we’ve only scored 3 goals twice at home against Arsenal in the premier league era - and one of those we lost.

Anyway, sure the betting shop loves you if you consider 1-0 near enough to 3-1. Maybe back us against Juve for 3-1 as 1-0 in Turin will do me
