I don't think Poch handled this particularly well. It only came about because he got arsey with a question about why Toby wasn't in the squad for Arsenal -- if he'd just said 'he needs to work on his fitness so he doesn't get injured again from coming back too soon' there would be no story.

It would have come out anyway just like the media stirred up the Danny rose nonsense after the NLD in November.

But Poch actually created the story by reacting in the press conference. He could've shut it down in one second by saying you need to be careful with hamstring injuries.

I don't really waste time speculating about tabloid stories.

But it's a fact that he's had a serious hamstring injury and the risk of muscular injury when you've been out for that long is pronounced.

He'll clearly be desperate to be involved, but it's a world cup year and hopefully this won't be our last CL away day.

Worst case scenario he is in the market for a move.

United/Chelsea/Liverpool/Arsenal/Madrid and potentially City are all going to have to look at their defence in the summer. We could theoretically be looking at 100m for him if we were forced to sell.

That said, I still really hope we don't.

Thinks thats a bit optimistic, around £50M I would say, if we got offered £100M I would take it tomorrow TBH.

You know Van Dyke went for 75mio.

Van Dyke is not even fit to tie Tobys shoeloaces.

I won't even mention Stones and Walker going for over 50mio each.

If he was not fit - he would not have been risked against Newport...

Newport isn't a challenging match for him, it's an ideal game to return to.

The manager is consistent with this process with Kane being the only exception.

Ummmmmm hes 30 this year, running down his contract and can be had for £25M if we trigger the extra year, clearly they are completely different cases.

Stones was incredibly young and bought for ability and potential.
Van Dyke is only 26 and had a few years left on his contract, Walker was in a similar situation.

I don't think it's a simple as that. Age, contract situation & clubs knowning they could get him for £25 mil (apparently) in 2019 drive the price down.

Obviously I’d rather he stayed. But the straight facts are we’ve been no worse without him. If anything our form is better.

With P14 L3

Without P23 L3

The fact we haven’t crumbled without him. The fact we have 4 solid CB and Davies for cover leaves the club in a strong position. Considering our situation at the back and with my Levy hat on selling a 29 yr old CB for £70/80m and replacing with say a 20 yr old De Jong from Ajax for £40m wouldn’t be the worst business in the world.

Harry Kane’s going to Real Madrid.

Dele Alli’s going to Real Madrid.

Christian Eriksen’s going to Barcelona.

Danny Rose is going.

Hugo Lloris is going.

Kieran Tripier is going.

Eric Dier is going.

Mauricio Pochettino is going to Real Madrid.

We are shit and Levy’s to blame for the shambles we’re in.

There we are, along with “Toby’s going to leave”, I think that’s the full set of the 2018 replacement for the old much-loved and lamented “we’ll never get a new stadium under ENIC”, though I may have missed a few.

It’s good to know how resourceful we are when we appear to be short of things to worry about.

And we can always fall back on “the new stadium won’t be ready in time” if we’re really struggling for something to be miserable about after just handing Man Utd, Liverpool and Arsenal their respective arses, winning our FA cup replay in between and preparing to play Juventus in the Champions League tomorrow.

Two big injuries in the last couple of seasons is also something to take into consideration when determining value.

Nevertheless; looking at the Man United centre backs trying to complete five yard passes these days may suggest that they would be wise to spunk some serious amounts of cash on Alderweireld this summer.

I’ve just watched the poch interview when he’s asked why alderweireld didn’t play and he reacts badly because he’s pissed off with the journalist for questioning his starting XI when we won. He says if we lost then he can be questioned but we didn’t so he picked the right team. He didn’t like having his authority challenged and put the journalist in his place. There’s no issue here other than that.

£40 - 50 I would say if he was to go in the summer for a 29yo would be good business, and concentrate on tieing Verts down for another 3-4 years.
If we’re only getting 40 then 15m for another year of Toby is a bargain, would have to sell for at least 50 but in today’s market should go for around 75m, also a years a long time and he could have a change of heart, see Ozil, so if someone wants him now they will have to pay up

He will be 29, come on 75M you are having a laugh, yes the markets crazy, but its not that crazy. Sanchez was swapped for Mkhitaryan. Aubameyang went for just over £50M. He could have a change of heart but in my reading of the situation is its all about a release clause, if that's true it doesn't matter if he signs a contract or not, the fact is he still wants a move to a bigger club.

No, because the media in this country are always satisfied with reasonable answers. I mean, it's not like they go round looking to make mountains out of mole hills, is it?
