The thing that has stopped him being regarded as a great is goals and assists it’s as simple as that. I have to say that was always my gripe with him. Yes he can look incredibly impressive when he glides pass 2 or 3. But ultimately if that doesn’t lead to an end product essentially he is flattering to deceive. It all depends what you expect from your creative CM. Obviously his runs invariably open up space for others so shouldn’t be dismissed. But ultimately I find him frustrating because he is so close to being very special.

A central midfielder is there to help you control a game. Mousa does that better than anyone in this league.

If Dembele does that better than anyone, and Kane is the best striker and TA is the best CB, and up until last year, according to everyone on here we had the best RB in the world, the best LB in the league, why didn't we win the league the last two seasons ?

Could it be that some of those statements are in fact a little bit exaggerated football fan bias ?

Perhaps because of injuries to those said players at key times? Especially last season we had very few gsmes where those players were all on the pitch. And also its a squad game.

Don't understate the effect his mere presence has on the rest of the team. They all seem to view him as our best player. He's a sort of safe haven you can always give the ball to when under pressure, and he'll ensure the ball stays with us. Fantastic to see him play three so good games in succession.

Part of me is somewhat sceptical as to how his body will react to playing as soon as tomorrow again though...

We were 2nd last season behind a rampant Chelsea team without European football and the year before was a "freak" football occurance.

We are doing unbelievably well considering our financial constraints.

I love the fact your thoughts are genuine and you like to play devil's advocate.

That's a good point, with so many exceptional players in the team, why didn't we win the league?

Last Season it's likely it was down to Chelsea were out performing us.

David Luiz and Azpilicueta were the best defenders in the league, Alonso, the best left back. Kante was the best player in midfield and Hazard was just Hazard, the X-factor that every team needs.

Their schedule being kinder, due to the lack of European football allowed these players to shine.

On an even playing field I think we would have chase would have been a lot closer.

So are you saying Kane isn't
the best striker in Europe?

Insanely good. Absolutely bossed the Midfield on Saturday, not only with his use of the ball but also physically.

I'm pretty sure he must have a condition where he can't pass the ball more than 10 yards though. It's more fun to watch him run 30 yards with it, do a spin and mug someone off in fairness but can slow us down at times.

I'd actually argue that over the last couple of weeks, he hasn't just returned to his best form over the last 2 seasons, he's surpassed it. He's passing forwards so much more now which is really helping us.

This is the best I've ever seen him play. He was unreal this evening. I don't think I've ever seen anyone do what he does.

Someone in the “what we know about Juve” thread posted an article from Juve showing the Moose is the one player they had to stop.

From the game plan they tried. Had three coming out at him to limit the pass and force the error.

A strange comparison but it’s like having a type of Zidane. He will control the game, he will win the midfield. Different player but he will win his battle.

The funniest thing about it was every time our player shit themselves they would just give it to Mousa and he would just skip by there whole midfield and give it to eriksen

Sublime performance today. He really settled the ship first half after that horrendous start when we were all at sea for a while. Showed for the ball, and got us back in rhythm and took the initiative away from Juve. He owned that midfield first half; tired a bit in the second like we all did, but he, more than anyone, got us back in the game today.
