Season defining fortnight

Let's just say that this was an intense series of games where, had we had a series of bad results, we very realistically could have massively dented our hopes on all front.

We've come through it with some really first class results, consistent performances, no fresh injuries and evidence of a new level of belief in the squad. We couldn't realistically have asked for more than that.

Onto the next phase....

The season is defined over the course of a season. We are constantly being defined by our lack of silverware. The closest you get to a defining fortnight is the last two weeks of the season. Right now we’re just still in the hunt. Which is better than not being in it. But there’s much work to be done.

If we go through against Juventus in the next leg we should fear no one in the Champs League. Have to make sure we are in it again next year to keep pace with the other clubs.

Quite right. Poch needs to sit them all down today or tomorrow (maybe give them today to enjoy the fantastic result last night) and remind them that we have not won anything yet, we are still outside the top 4 in the league, and we are at half time with Juve - one of the best teams in Europe who could easily score 2 or 3 goals at Wembley. The hard work starts now. The strong mindset ramps up now.

Poch also needs to take a moment reflect himself. He really does need to use the squad wisely against Huddersfield, Rochdale and Palace, whilst getting wins in each. Fergie had to learn to cope with combining the rigours of the CL with league form back int eh 90's. So did Wenger (when he was good and Arsenal competed for the league and the CL). We're very lucky in that we have the likes of Winks, Wanyama, Moura, Sissoko, Rose, Alderweireld, Llorente, Lamela, all needing minutes to get sharpness back and all need to be used in the next two weeks. I know Kane wants to score in every game, but he really needs to be rested in the FA Cup at least!

Sound advice, maybe you should pass this onto him

If we go through there is plenty to fear especially from any English club that's left.

They should be fearing us, not the other way round, the last fortnight should tell you all you need to know.
I'm sure that some are, eyes have been on us since the Real game. But let's be honest we are still very much the underdogs to win the competition.

Perhaps we and the players should adopt the dog masks similar to the ones the Philadelphia Eagles’s players adopted on their way to becoming Super Bowl winners?

only problem i dont like with our run in is that we'll be coming up against a lot of teams who will be battling relegation given how tight it is at the bottom of the table. That is going to mean a lot of teams sitting back and defending deep for a hopeful point, so hopefully we can find ways to break those teams down

Yes but so will the rest of the top 5.

The bottom 11 teams are seperated by 11 points, they are literally all battling relegation, so many games against teams scrapping for points.

I personally think the following fortnight will tell us more.

One thing producing performances against the big boys, another producing it against the minnows.

It's harder to get yourself up for the smaller games especially after the fortnight we've had.

If we don't drop any points against Huddersfield and Crystal Palace then we can say we have arrived and could be on to something special.

Realistically we need 12pts from 12pts in our next 4 game:

Palace
Huddersfield
Bournemouth
Newcastle

In seasons past we could afford a draw or two from that lot, but not this season as the competition is too fierce.

We do that and get something at the Bridge and we'll finish in the top 4

Btw, I think we've got (arguably) the most favourable run-in compared to our rivals. Our only 2 stand-out tough games are Chelsea away and Man City at home, but the latter will be at a time when City have probably already won the league.

Someone says this every year and, while I don't completely disagree, we need to remember that those teams are battling relegation because they're not very good (relatively speaking). Given the way we've finished the last two seasons (last couple of games of the Leicester season aside) those relegation threatened teams should be feeling pretty fearful.

My ideal scenario this season is a Champions League Final against Real Madrid....I would love to see us lift the cup as Ronaldo disappears down the tunnel in tears having watched his team be thoroughly outfought and outclassed by Spurs..... (again !).

I watched RM v PSG last night and RM were lucky to come out of it with such a good result so hopefully, your wish will come true. I have to say I was impressed by the skill of the players in both teams which highlighted the size of the job if we are drawn against one of the top 4 or 5 teams left. having said that, our performances against Utd, Arsenal and Juve have encouraged me to believe we are no pushovers anymore they too will have to fear us.

Being drawn against one of the English teams - IF we get through - would be horrible. For all the faults of the other teams, I think we would struggle to topple any of them over 2 legs, maybe Pool aside.
