If Aurier is willing to get his head down and put the work in, he will improve, it's not science but like with all players these things take time, people just need to be patient.

Patience is great. But patience requires time. So, assuming we get through to the next round and Aurier and Trippier are both fit, who would you pick to play RB? Which player would you put your trust in right now?

As others before have said: look at Danny Rose first few seasons with us (and at the start under Poch), diving in, giving away needless free-kicks, losing the ball in our own third. He needed time, he got it; look how good he’s been for us past three seasons.
It’s the same with Aurier... will need a season or so to adapt, plus he was in and out of the PSG team so needs a good run of games.
I also think he can be guilty of trying too hard, by which I mean: he’s desperate to keep his spot and make an impact so he tries to make impossible tackles in order to do something extraordinary.
Give him time, he’ll be a very important player for us!

OK well Poch has a lot to do. His crossing seems terrible, passing meh, positioning is bad and of course the slide tackle.

I hadnt seen him play before he signed, but I was promised Walker pace which he doesnt have or at least I havent seen it

I believe there's enough there for Poch to improve him and long term he will. Saying that, in the short term I wouldn't be starting him against any of the big boys on the run in until he tempers himself a bit. I guarantee that every Spurs fan when he gave the pen away last night collectively went 'oh what a tit'. Maybe some language more blue than others. Partly because he was a tit, partly because he has previous for being a tit. But let's face it, we weren't paying £24m and getting the finished article.

Would be nice if he improved his crossing a bit too.

Ask me that question nearer the time ;)

Two things would help before answering that question:

One, knowing who we are playing against.

Two, knowing and understanding why Pochettino preferred Aurier to Trippier last night. Because i think Pochettino knows a thing or two about football.

The thing about yesterday was that you can’t even say his attacking play made up for the crazy penalty. His crossing was awful and he kept giving out hospital balls as well.

He is talented, but keeps making the same mistakes and isn’t as good going forward as I was expecting.

Hopefully Poch can coach it out of him, but I don’t see how anyone can say he deserves to start ahead of Trippier at the moment.

If we are being realistic and talking about top level neither Trips or Aurier would be in top 10 RB in world.wont happen but a radical solution could be to sell both get £50-60m and buy someone top level and have KWP as understudy.

I was never a big fan of him, at PSG he looked like a slower Walker who loved those sliding tackles. He has better tecnhique and he can do nutmegs but that's not exactly what you look for in a RB. Walker and Rose had some horrible games for us so hopefully Pochettino can work his magic again.

You'd think people would learn about writing off players so soon. Happened with Kane, rose, Davies, Lamela, son and many others. Just trust poch knows way more about football then you ever will and enjoy the ride.

Oh well at least it will be fun coming back to this thread one day and laughing at the bedwetters.

He's coming off the back of an injury and he's certainly not match sharp. He needs a run of games, so I'd start him against Rochdale so he can get his mojo back.

THIS.
Absolouely no-one should be writing him off already. It was disappointing he gave away another penalty by diving in last night in a huge game at a crucial time but he’s got a lot of good attributes we just need Poch to work with him a bit. RB seems our main weakness at the moment if we are being uber critical as Aurier is still a bit error prone and Trippier is great going forward but 1v1 vs a Sane or Pacey winger Trippier struggles physically and pacewise. Both are a step down on walker but hopefully both will keep improving or if we really need to we look at the market again. Have to say Trippier in his last few games has been in the form of his life.

Laughable.

Can guarantee when he’s putting in great performances in a year’s time this thread will be full of people saying “Oh my God we could never have seen this coming, it’s such a shock that he’s good now!” exactly the same way they did with Walker, Rose, Davies and Trippier. No, some of us can see it coming. Just be patient and stop writing players off so bloody early.

I think he'll improve and more importantly Poch trusts him. Many people were calling for him to be removed but Poch kept on and he got through the match. I think it was important for his confidence that he stayed on.

I'm in the "he's trying to hard" to be honest. It seems like he does have talent and looks like he really wants to be here and play. Trouble is he's just a bit too excitable and lunges into tackles far too much. He's done it 3 times this season off the top of my head. If he just calms down a bit he'll be a decent player for us.

I think it would be unfair to fully judge Aurier until he has a full preseason under Poch, however, Trippier is now far ahead of Aurier, particularly with his recent form.

Its not just that though, his positioning is absolutely terrible, he is talented but needs to improve a lot to really take the N.1 spot.

Go back exactly 3 weeks ago people weren't saying that.

People only react to how good/bad a player's last game was, against Newport county people were calling for Trippier to be dropped and some people were even saying he should be sold lol

I like the battle between these two, there's no first choice at the moment which means they will both push each other to improve, can only be a good thing.

Give him time. As has already been said on here, just look at how far Walker/Rose came on under Poch. Harsh to write him off so quickly.
