What's new

According to ESPN, we have one of the top 10 players in the world in practically every position

Well, I don't know how much I agree with their ratings, but we must be climbing in the public's conscience somehow...I have to look through more carefully to see which teams have more, but certainly not many...

GK - Hugo 6th
RB - Aurier 8th
CB - Toby 8th
LB - Rose 8th
CM - n/a
AM - Dele 6th
AM - Eriksen 7th
WF - n/a
F - n/a
S - Kane 4th
Manager - Poch 8th

I guess wingers are now called wide forwards. Also Messi, Ronaldo and Neymar are forwards, while Lewandowski, Aguero and Suarez (and Kane) are strikers. We have 2 of the top 10 AM's in the world (2 of the top 7, even).

So, we're pretty good I guess. (hmm "division" was supposed to be "position", don't know how to edit thread titles)

There are some very spurious names in them lists, and noticing that this was put together before the transfer window, I'm not sure i'm 100% with them on some of their choices.

Aurier better than Moses? Mkhitaryan in there at all? Yeah, this was done from Football Manager at quarter to five on a Friday - it's OK ESPN, you can be honest, we all know it ;)

Rashford made top 10 forwards. Me thinks not reliable list.

Yeah, he's not exactly impressing so far. But give him until next season, and hopefully Poch have him playing better

oh, I'll give him as long as he wears a Spurs shirt. I like him and always support our own ... even when they're struggling far worse than Aurier has been. I'm 100% on board.

... but there's no way he's the 8th best right back in the world.

Rose has barely kicked a ball in almost a year, not sure how he can be on a list of the top 10 left backs.

Vertonghen isn't even in the top ten list, and he is probably among top 4 in actuality. Suarez is ranked above Kane, which probably was the case in 2015. :stop:

Well I don't agree with it much either. If you have a look, they just took the players at 8 or so clubs (usual obvious suspects), and put all their players in there, mixing up the order (maybe they used a random number generator after choosing the first couple) to make it look like some analysis was carried out. However what made an impression was that apparently in the world of sports journalism, we are now one of those elite clubs.

I think their GK top 10 is pretty accurate, although I feel Alison of Roma should be in there.

Their RB list is hilarious. Valencia fourth. Juanfran hardly plays nowadays. Fabinho is a holding midfielder. Bellerin shouldn’t be anywhere near the top 10. Semedo isn’t first choice. And Moses is struggling this season. Admittedly Aurier shouldn’t make it either, but he has all the qualities to be considered one day.

Their CBs seem to be based on reputation and past endeavours rather than current form. Vertonghen should be in there no question, as should Azpilicueta (but he’s listed as a LB for some reason).

Apart from the above, not too much issue with LBs, although Mendy has only had one good season.

CMs: Pogba fourth. Based on his celebration and commercial work I presume. No Pjanic, Dembele or Verratti. Rubbish.

Can’t be arsed with the rest as their definition of each attacking role makes it all just a mess. Their manager list is also crap.

But if you run them all through Football Manager 2017...

I still think this list was done from their FM stats/performance rather than actual form or talent.

Also why on earth are they quoting Football Whispers on values?

Kyle “I was just sold for £50m” Walker valued at 30m after a season where he’ll win his first premier league title

Kane £74m, worth a little more than half an Aguero? :ROFLMAO:

Petr Cech in the top 10 GKs ? To quote Arsenal Fan TV he cant even catch a cold let alone a ball.

The average age of their list across positions is well over 30 which tells you it is based on historic reputation not current performances. That being said as others have said it is scandalous that Verts doesn’t make the list because he has been comfortably the best CB in England for at least a year.
