They need minutes. It's just adjusting to the fact we actually have a squad now which people are struggling with. Yes our 2nd 11 is obviously not as good as our first but glad Poch is using it and we're staying in competitions. A lot of those players needed game time.

I don’t disagree and I’m not arguing it was necessarily a mistake. My point is that Poch doesn’t value this competition. I can’t really understand how anyone could see otherwise.

I don't see that, I thought Winks was more like Winks of old, and but for that one costly moment had a good game.
Winks of old, was more assertive in demanding the ball and making the quick pass.

Winks of recent seems to be suffering from a crisis of confidence.

I think he does. He also thinks our 2nd 11 is good enough to beat Rochdale and worth a gamble. It's just a balancing act he's got to do. I think his selection was correct near enough and if we're gonna be able to compete in all competitions we can't just play our best elelev every game.

Possibly because we made the semi-finals last year and are still in it this year?

Just a wild guess...

Agree Rose and Trippier but Wanyama was decent that game, virtually on his own against three players for most of it. Four players once Poch idiotically dropped Sissoko back there.

Sorry BC, rarely are we on a different page but Wanyama was dogshit today.

Too busy wrestling instead of playing football. Like he's on a mission to prove he's the strongest player in England.

He's not even the strongest player in our team.

Was he though? He fucked up once for the goal and once Sissoko got out of his way he started to pull some strings. Moura was our best player. Sissoko was Sissoko.
I think Winks was very ordinary (terrible may have been the wrong word).

As another poster mentioned, he just looks like he is massively lacking confidence.

However, each to their own.

Another needless replay and whilst it's 'another opportunity for squad rotation/minutes etc' I'm really unenthused with the mentality and application from these 'fringe' players.

Why can we never seemingly control the damn midfield and dictate play and tempo?! Are we that solely reliant on one player (Eriksen) for this?! Worrying if so.

Son was at his frustratingly bumbling worst - no more so than in the dying minutes instead of whipping it in with his left he turns and promptly loses possession and there goes the full time whistle, urgghhh....

No doubt it's a great result for Rochdale - gives them their day in the sun and a nice payday but ultimately we only have ourselves to blame in not seeing this one out.
Surely, that's what we are hoping Winks will do but;
1. He's been injured on/off
2. He's still very young

A midfield with Sissoko and Wanyama (short on game time and match fitness too) in is never going to take control of a football match. Which is why I think we will bring in another CM to give us better rotation in this area.

I have only seen a few of the players Man U had playing, but looked more of a stronger line up than us? correct ne if im wrong.

You cannot say our line up was not a strong one! It’s not like we played the kids out there and against Newport! Only excuse is three or four of the players who played today are coming back from long term injury and are definitely struggling for match sharpness.

What was so bad about winks??

Nothing really. He's getting a bit of the Sissoko treatement because he coughed up their first goal but he tried to be progressive and get us going which is his job. Maybe just lacking a little confidence and match sharpness - but that's exactly why he plays in these games - so he can find form and be ready if needed in the First 11.

I do. He's one of those unique players who are not simply poor footballers themselves, but actively cause their teammates to play poorly when they're on the pitch.

I agree and I wouldn't shed a single tear if he never played another game for us. If you're a player who is accustomed to playing with silky footballers like Eriksen Kane Alli and Lamela, but then find yourself having to pass the ball to Sissoko, only to watch him fumble with three touches before getting the ball under control, it can be dispiriting and a detriment to team flow.

But at this point, I think you should direct your ire towards Poch. He's the one that continually picks him and puts him in central positions where his horrid first touch is always exposed. That being said, I cant actually recall an occasion where he's lost the ball in embarrassing fashion that resulted in a goal, much like what has happened to a few of our other midfielders of late.
