Poch : 4 - Picked the wrong team yet again in a cup tie and then refused to make changes until almost too late. I really hope behind closed doors he gives the team a rocket!
Thats a bit harsh - if you think Poch selected the wrong team - for him to then turn around and blame the players...

Didnt think we played badly on a difficult pitch, but 2 pieces of poor play have put their goals on a plate for them

Vorm - poor 4

Trips - better 1st half 6

Toby - rusty 4

Foyth - classy 7

Rose - v.good second half 7

Wanyama and Sissoko both did fine 7

Son - disgusting game 3

Winks - rusty 4

Lucas - sparkled in first half, tired 2nd but got crucial goal 7

Llorente - good 1st half but nothing 2nd 5

Subs all made an impact so 7 for each.

We're gonna regret these extra games at the end of the season i fear

This is the frustration with Son, he's so awfully inconsistent. If he could stay at the level he was a month ago he would be world class but he never does, every season he goes through a purple patch were he is unstoppable but then he just falls off. But even so, this was a really poor showing. Lamela has rightly taken his starting spot for me.

Apart from Son, Toby is a worry, obviously he's lacking match sharpness but a player of his quality should be a lot better. We are really going to need him to fix up for the remainder of the season. I just hope the contract situation isn't messing with his focus.

Rose just needs games, and not just once a month. I think he's still capable of getting back to his best but expecting him to do it with the game time he's had is a hard ask. But the other question is will he be here next season, if not then why should we put effort into raising his game. I personally hope he stays as at his best he is a fantastic left back and club trained.

Foyth is gonna be some player it looks. Great skills on the ball and composure, but a good defender too

Definitely a Vertonghen than a chriches

IDK how people are saying Trippier played well. He had absolutely no impact on the game offensively and him ball watching and not closing down the cross was directly responsible for their last goal.

Lucas obviously MOTM. Fantastic from the opening whistle till the minute he got subbed off.

Foyth has played well every time Poch has given him a chance and today was no exception. He deserves more playing time. Unfortunately for him he's stuck behind Super Jan.

Son and Alderweild were on vacation. Absolutely the worst match I've seen either play in quite some time.

Trippier rarely shines against any team from any league who press and close down the space. He looks better against the teams that sit off. Man Utd was a prime example of this.

Pluses,

Moura, he can run and (boy can he) jump.
Kane's penalty.
More nice stuff from Lamela.
and a throughball from Sissoko, just days after Dembele did two (I'm starting to the the Cloverfield Paradox is a true story...)
A more positive performance than of late from Winks, although still looking unconfident.
Foyth (looked much better than Toby who pretty much passed the ball sideways to him the whole game)

the minuses,
Son :poop:
Victor,
Toby:yuck:
The rest of Sissoko's game ;)
the robbing of winks...

Too many players taking too many touches on a pitch that wasn't suited for that style of play.

Not really - he had a chance to pick a proper midfield at HT but opted to give the same players the chance to roll up their sleeves and apply themselves better ... and after that second chance they still let him, and us, down.

That is the second lower league midfield that have both outplayed and outfought Wanyama in this season's FA Cup.

Moura's ability to run at pace and control the ball on a pitch that, by top flight standards at least, is pretty shit was impressive

I think it's a combination of factors at work.

We've got several out there coming back from injury and struggling for rhythm, match sharpness, and maybe a bit of confidence. There's going to be a bit of rust, and things being disjointed at times. That can be tolerated.

However, that's where the goodwill ends from me. Most of the struggles, at Newport and again here today, are mentality related... We just didn't play at the right intensity at all. As a collective and as individuals the ethos seemed to be 'lets just get through the game expending as little energy as possible'. That approach at it's best saw slow, over elaborate play, at its worst you got the impression that some of them just didn't want to be out there and couldn't be bothered, full stop.

Individually they will get the blame and I think that performance surely has to put paid to certain chances of getting in the 'first team' over the coming weeks, but some of the spotlight has to go on the manager as well for me..... His casual indifference, often bordering on outright dismissal, of the cup competitions has to I think drip down and have an effect on the players, because it's just a pattern of these performances being lacking in any tempo, vim and vigour. After the scare of the last round, you'd expect the team to come out alert and awake and with its sleeves rolled up ready to get to work, but we got more of the same. I just don't see how the team can come out with that attitude, again, and everyone has to take the blame. Players and Coaches.

I'm also not impressed by our tactics again. I feel we play, well, pretty dumb in all honesty, and gift wrap momentum and confidence to these lower league teams.... We're overplaying in the wrong areas, and when you put that together with a difficult pitch, half-arsed performances, and technical faults in certain players, making errors that we're sometimes getting away with and sometimes aren't. Today our main source of joy was sporadically hitting the front man with runners off him. I thought Llorente had a fairly decent game, well first half at least, in that aspect. We've got no one though, on the pitch or the sidelines, who is seemingly seeing this though and getting us going a little more direct. Instead we stick at the low tempo, cant be arsed, possession ball.

Vorm - Not much chance with either goal. He does invite a bit of pressure sometimes though with some slightly lax passing.

Trippier - Pretty haphazard performance.

Alderweireld - Looked a million miles from his best today, and the most disappointing aspect was that he got worse and worse as the game went on. You can see why he didn't play against Juve..... How does he regain the sharpness though?

Foyth - Some questionable decisions at times both with and without the ball. He did ok though, good character and doesn't seem to get rattled, he stands his ground and keeps going.

Rose - For the first 60, maybe 70, minutes his performance was totally unacceptable. No effort to do anything at all. The last bit of the game he did seem to get a bit of fire in his belly, but was still fairly wasteful. Has to be much better, I wonder if he's 100% fit yet?

Winks - Some good bursts, some poor bits of play though and caught badly on the ball for the first goal. Didn't seem to be getting around the pitch that well either defensively. Looks badly lacking in rhythm and a bit of confidence more than anything else.

Wanyama - Pretty bad. One of those guilty of coasting it with the wrong mentality, and he too in the centre of the park struggled to cover the ground.

Sissoko - Slipped in a competent pass for the Moura goal, a couple of bursts first half on top of that, but mainly offered very little and had no idea how to impact the game.

Moura - He was bright. His dribbles at least hinted at threat, even with varying degrees of success. He also kept putting himself about, and scored a nice goal with a composed finish. Wasn't a bad start.

Son - One of the worst games I can recall from him. Sloppy, poor decisions, wasteful, lack of work ethic, and the pitch at times showing up his dodgy first touch. Not a good day for him.

Llorente - He missed a wonderful chance, but I thought first half he actually played pretty well and alongside Moura was probably our most competent player. He won basically every header, was a good focal point, and put Son through on goal what three or four times. Second half offered little - but we had bizarre tactics of two up top that featured Llorente running channels whilst Son played as back to goal target man..... Go figure. Overall I thought he did ok in a lot of aspects, but he just doesn't ever look a consistent goal threat, nor does he offer any mobility or lead the press.

Subs:
Lamela - Ok.

Alli - One nutmeg, one penalty won, the rest pretty wasteful.

Kane - Good pen, the rest I forget.

Moura MOTM. Trippier decent & Foyth ok.

Son could hardly put a foot right. Similar for Wanyama and Rose in the first hour, although they improved in last 30 mins. Toby & Winks also off the pace.

Needed those first-choice subs today. Poor overall.

A lot of over reaction to a disappointing performance and result. I think the replay is a blessing in disguise because clearly our players returning from injury need more game time. The only player who really shouldn’t play in the replay is Llorente, I’m not going to say he is rubbish because his history proves otherwise but he is a really poor fit for us, the sooner he moves on the better for both parties. Really wish Poch would try playing without a traditional CF.

Moura MOTM.

Wanyama come Back has been weird. Looked great in patches and similarly awful as well. Winks was bit better 2nd half but is gonna have to really step it up if he isn’t to be ousted by new signings.

Toby, Rose and Wanyama disappointed the most for me in this, 3 big players you would expect much better from and all 3 very poor by their own standards. Toby seems to have his head elsewhere, Rose seems disinterested, and Wanyama was making poor decisions all game whether losing the ball, making the wrong pass or not working hard enough. Son is struggling lately, making poor choices up top and things not coming off for him but he has a top attitude so will come good again.

Main positive Moura was a shining light up until his sub, always showing glimpses of something special to come. Thought Foyth done well also.

Here's where I may lose some people, I thought Trippier played really well, made a few important defensive clearances and I thought was pretty solid, and Llorente who people will pick out for missing a good chance if I remember right it all came about from a beautiful touch by him to help us break, and then the chance itself the ball was bobbling around like it was all day making it hard to bring under control, so probably in the minority but I thought he done respectable overall and at least tried hard. Sissoko whilst again not having the greatest match done what was important and got us an assist with a nicely weighted pass and is a decent squad option to have, he is not as bad as people make out, as Winks is not as good as people make out...

Do you really think Winks has become a bad player after his injury or could it just be that he needs time to recover ?

I think what it highlights is that when people complain about who Poch starts week in week out, we should maybe trust his judgement regarding who is in the team.
