I get why some people find that chant distasteful, but I think we should be very careful with any attempt to censure it, or go along with the "what about the children?" response. The same arguments could just as easily be used regarding Yid chants, "Fuck off back to Woolwich", even any kind of swearing or 'abuse' by the more sensitive souls watching. The last thing we want to do is end up contributing to football becoming even more gentrified and sanitised than it already is.

No one's saying that, HE is now irrelevant.
For some people not so much.

TBH I can take it or leave it, but I absolutely understand it if someone doesn't feel the same as long as its confined to a casual ****ing off and nothing OTT then whatever floats your boat, its not like its the worst thing in the world :D

I totally agree still singing about this vermin is mindless, and may give him the impression we still aren't over the nasty ****...

But its hardly worth a thread , i look at him differently now, not so much hate but a figure of fun, a joke of a man, i cannot believe was our hero.....a distant bad memory that should never occupy us anymore.

The only thing keeping Campbell relevant is the singing of songs about him. I despise it, I don't care what they contain, it's no worse than any other brain dead football fans, but the subject of him is what ****s me off the most.

Fuck him, forget about him. Remember him for the **** that he was and still is when he appears on TV, don't give him the chance to play the victim because as long as we keep abusing him he will keep using it.

We have such good things/players to sing about, I just cannot for the life of me work out why we still waste oxygen on this ****.

I think there's a fairly big gap between 'gentrification and sanitisation' of the game, and suggesting it's pretty horrendous to sing about wanting someone to die.

As ever with these things, the people who do it (not saying you're one of them btw) try and fight back with a 'slippery slope' argument that really doesn't add up.

As Riggi says you can't really defend it, and it's quite worrying when people do try to defend it quite so vociferously.

I agree that football is a place where you'll always get swearing and abuse of other fans/players...but there does need to be a line and it's a shame to see Spurs fans deliberately over-stepping it.

Have I been this embarrassed to be a Spurs fan? It’s in SC’s top 3 I guess...

Here we go pop-pickers! (One for you @TheChosenOne )

But then there’s throwing piss at West Ham fans... Oh, decisions, decisions...

Fuck that for a game of soldiers. I take responsibility for my own actions and cast my own judgement on people I think are dicks. It’s a healthy system to keep to me sane and generally non-plussed.

Woah woah woah I'm all for pulling people up on unacceptable behaviour but let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Throwing piss at West Ham fans is entirely justifiable. I'm fairly certain that would also be the opinion of the European Court of Human Rights.

There will always be extremist. He is still a human being. I hate Sol... but I am won't be making death threats to him.

He was great during his time with us. Which now seems like a life time ago.

What he did was absolutely pathetic, fuck him.

But everyone in football knows how the fans feel about him, and so does he - obviously.

The sad thing about it is we're only letting ourselves down by singing it.

But I guess it's having the ability to recognise that.

The what about the kids argument is wrong. Football is a place where you hear bad stuff and your dad tells you to not repeat it or tell your mother.

I literally don't care that songs are still sung about Campbell. In fact I think it's quite amusing he still can't turn on a Spurs match 20 years later. Football relies on history, heroes and villains otherwise it really is just watching a bunch of guys kicking a ball.

But there should be a line that needs to be drawn somewhere , and all this kicking heads in and dying shit, it's a bit Danny dyer isn't it. It pretty cringe worthy.

Normally i’m a life above football kind of a guy. I don’t hold a grudge against players when they leave.

Sol though is different, what he did and the way he did it makes it unforgivable for me. Especially considering he comes across as real asshole.

That being said I don’t like us singing about him. Some of the songs are disgusting and in general it’s time to move on.

Time to make him an irrelevance.

Throwing piss at West Ham fans should come with a knighthood.

As much as I don't really agree with it (although I'm not overly bothered either way) it doesn't seem to be a death threat. It's similar to the thousands of people (i.e. the north) saying similar things about Maggie Thatcher.

The what about the kids argument is wrong. Football is a place where you hear bad stuff and your dad tells you to not repeat it or tell your mother.

When I was just a little boy I asked my mother what will I be...

If I can’t throw piss at West Ham supporters then football is worthless to me.

Nothing more satisfying than seeing a West Ham supporter with face full of piss.

Well, tell a lie, there is, it’s calling Sol Campbell a ****.
