Agree with the OP. I was watching on TV and turned to the missus to say "Hang on a minute, are they actually singing the Sol Campbell song?". Just bizarre. The guy is a complete joke of a human being and thankfully it seems that the TV/newspapers have finally realised that and he's disappeared into nothingness. Just move on.

Class? what a load of old twaddle....you're being super sensitive.
When did football become about showing other teams respect?
Bollocks to that.

The term 'Spursy' was coined by some of our self-loathing fans, who used it so much that the media and opposition fans jumped on it.
Spurs fans are to blame for the terms existence.

Life is about respect. If you want to opt out mate, knock yourself out. You reap what you sow.

Though LOL at those fans declaring what a fantastic, respectful manager Poch is while going "la la la la" like the village idiot behind him.

Not in my name etc. I cringe every time I hear it. Although it's quite humbling in that it reminds me that every club has a bunch of twats supporting it, even ours.

All a bit West Hammy if you ask me.

Agree its time to let the Campbell song die. Its history, just like him.

No one should care anymore.

So where do we stand?

Are we......

A: a bunch of sandal wearing lentil munchers who shouldn't sing any song about him at all?
or
B: sensitive to our times, it's OK to sing a song about him as long as it's a 'nice' song

Why choose...? Why not just forget he even exists and concentrate on singing the team's praises instead..... let his memory fade away into ignominy....and under no circumstances whatsoever utter his name in the new stadium.

As my profile says.."There are two types of people in the world, those that divide people into two types and those who don't"

When I visit the Lane, I recognize that its going to be a herd mentality. Usually in life I do my own thing regardless of what anyone says. But i like those 90 mins being part of a greater whole, and singing fairly poor lyrics, poor in the sense that very few of them are works of creative genius.
Naturally rivalry/roux jr pie quality/the teams performance is what makes football what it is.
Some people will always get caught up in that mentality, and do things they later regret or will take the herd mentality thing too far.
Footballs come along way, some of it good, some bad. Some of us will remember the bad old days when turning the wrong corner leaving a ground wasnt the smartest thing in the world. I can remember as a very young kid some truely terrible stuff by opposition fans, and to be fair our own fans. Finding the fine line is difficult and always will be.
Yesterday in the Rochdale thread I praised the fans for singing Ryan Masons name, absolutely loved it but I also went out of my way not to name the one that forgot what being spurs is all about.
My main concern is our history in the new stadium, not having it all stuffed in a museum. For the first game i'd like to see the angels out warming up. Thats a nod to history for those who arnt aware of that one. I want new songs , new history, and most of all i want to be in the fan wall singing absurd songs, and hearing it boom around the stadium.
Next time it'll be a book length if you force me :blackeye:

Don’t know if Judas does love hearing it as I remember him saying recently that we need to let it go or something like that.

I don’t really have a problem with the Kick his head in song either as primarily it’s a joke though I appreciate it could incite violence amongst the more bone headed fans but they never need much of an excuse anyway.

I know people who have problems with the fuck em all chant as well which I don’t understand as that’s bigging us up more than anything else.

The don’t give a fuck if you’re hanging from a tree you Judas **** with HIV doesn’t sit right with me though but only coz of the HIV reference and I appreciate the lynching connotations but I’ve always took it as the biblical reference to Judas hanging himself. Either way it’s probably best that one, along with the we’re all having a party, needs to stop.

The heyyyyyy Sol Campbell Judas song is good, though, and we should sing that well into the new stadium and beyond.

I think we should stop singing "we're the Tottenham boys making all the noise" because it's actually quite disrespectful to the other fans because it's saying that they aren't making noise and that might make them sad.:(

Okay can people stop using the freedom of speech bullshit line of reasoning here, just because rappers use derogatory lyrics which is entirely different it doesn't mean people can sing what they like on the terraces, why stop there seeing as they use death threats and homophobic insults in their songs maybe the fans can bring back racism and homophobia as well, two wrongs don't make a right fella.

First of all, please explain to me how music that encourages violence towards others, promotes death and gun violence and treats women like shit is any different than a bunch of twats in a stand wishing for death upon someone?

Both of these things are actively promoting and encouraging violence are they not? You could argue the former is even more dangerous because of the level of authority musicians have but irrespective of all that, it’s besides the point because the freedom of speech thing is not my line of reasoning at all, where did I once say that? read my post again.

I never said it was right in rap music did I? I don’t listen to rap music for that very reason and I never said it was right in the terraces, I said I draw the line at racism and homophobia, full stop.

I am simply calling out the bullshit hypocrisy that exists from people where they will protect certain things because they enjoy them but then frown their nose up at something else because in their mind they feel it’s wrong.

Let me make it clear, I don’t condone songs calling for someone to die in a football stadium or anywhere for that matter, I don’t condone songs about racism or homophobia either, I do however believe that we need to be careful about what we consider to be “offensive” because we live in a society these days that wants everything banned or “purified” but only when it suits their own agenda about what they believe people should and shouldn’t partake in.

The last time I checked, calling Sol Campbell a **** isn’t any of those things mentioned above, I don’t think chants like that should be an issue, the other shit well, people can ultimately do as they please but they need to know that, well, they themselves are also ****s for doing so.

I don’t sing any songs about Campbell but that’s a personal choice.

Not that it makes much of a difference, but the Sol dying song doesn’t wish death against him as some have suggested in here. It’s not like the song is saying ‘we want you to die, we want you to diiiiiiiiieee, Sol Campbell, we want you to die’, they’re just saying that they’ll be happy when he does. Lots of people celebrate death of a loved one by partying :D

Ok, on a serious note, I wish the chants would stop because as has been said, it makes him relevant when he shouldn’t be. That said, one day I hope he gets into management and is then drawn away to us in the cup (because he’ll be managing a league 1 team, obvs). And I hope the abuse he gets is very loud and clear and a reminder that he did fuck us over back in the day. That aside, he shouldn’t be sung about at matches except against arsenal and even then that’s pushing it nowadays.

The la la la la you’re shit song isn’t necessarily classless, it’s just a twatty thing to do because it makes you look like a **** if they equalise. Against Arsenal, Chelsea and West Ham if we’re 3-0 up with 2 minutes left, great. Any other time against anyone else then nope. (Ok, maybe Liverpool nowadays....)

So, in conclusion (in my opinion) we shouldn’t really sing about Sol’s existence, Sol’s death, Sol’s dad’s death or anything Sol related. BUT we should NEVER forget what he did to us in football terms which set us back years whilst helping our rivals have one of their most successful periods ever. And if he did return to the new WHL in any footballing capacity then I hope we make it as uncomfortable for him as we did in his Arsenal and Portsmouth days.
