Just feels like we're all a creepy ex who can't let it go. How we mock West Ham for their hatred against us as defining their existence, I feel like we use him. Not to the same extent but fuck me we don't half go on about him.
Exactly, I'd rather we just wrote him out of our history entirely. Personally, I forget he even exists until the chants are sung.

I'm not that happy with the Judas reference in these songs - the poor guy must be turning in his grave.
After all he tried to make amends to some extent and at least gave the money back.

I don't mind the Judas one but the other one- no. Always here it under the stands before an away game but not usually sung out in the open. It makes us sound like Chelsea or West Ham fans, with no sense of right or wrong. We support a much better club, so let's be better than them.

I saw this thread and thought it would be just embarrassment at the result yesterday; as great as Rochdale were, that is frankly more 'embarrassing' or perhaps worrying/frustrating than what a few knuckleheads chant.

Why though?

The bad parts are just as much part of our history as the good ones, and are what will make it even more special when we get the success that we're so close to, if we just forget them that's half (or more with spurs!) of our history gone. Just imagining his judas face if/when we win the league with players that actually have half a backbone makes me smile.

By taking the piss out of him we're taking back the pain he caused us and using it for our enjoyment and to make sure he never forgets how much of a **** he is. I hope we never stop singing the "you're a ****" one, the death one is not good but I'm not gonna lose sleep over it.

That almost sounds like you think he gives a flying toss what a bunch of slack jaws say about him. He didn't give a shit when he was playing and he sure as hell doesn't give a shit now.

Yeah the death one, that is also racist, homophobic and incredibly offensive to those with mental-health issues, is definitely "not good"

Sol personally caused you pain? How did he do that? I was upset as anyone, but pain? It was more than 15 years ago. He just ran his contract down, something that's now commonplace – he didn't punch your mum.

Man leaves failing company to work for another, more successful company. We finished 10th in 2000, Arsenal 2nd, the year he left. We went as low as 14th and they won the league. In hindsight, seeing the trajectories of the two clubs at the time, no matter how sneaky he was, can you really blame him?

I expect Toby to get this treatment if he does the same. As he'll be doing it at a time when we're generally going pretty well, not when we were utter dogshit.

Actually really quite sad to see people's opinions on this.

I don't want to judge people but it's really hard not to when so many people wear their lack of education as a badge of honour.

"I'm so right that anyone who disagrees with me about a highly subjective subject is uneducated"

Just because people have a different opinion as you doesn't mean they have a 'lack of education', you're really not coming across very well.

I'd suggest you leave the discussion if you have to insult people.

Why's Walker not getting this treatment?

I agree with your stance on the chants but fuck me the last 2 paragraphs are so UTB it’s unbelievable. (UTB = under the bottom, which I assume is the opposite of over the top - maybe I should stick with ‘underexaggerated’). Anyway....

Please don’t compare Campbell leaving Spurs to join Arsenal to an office worker who leaves one job to go to another. You know deep down it’s nothing like that whatsoever. The day we genuinely believe those comparisons is the day we completely stop caring about football.

Also, pain doesn’t have to be physical. When you idolise someone for years and then they fuck you over the way he did, you have every right to be disgusted and hurt. Not 3 yr old girl hurt, but ‘depressed as fuck & seeing him as part of the invincibles for years’ hurt.

I think it’s obvious why Walker isn’t getting this treatment. Come on mate!

Mate, I don't want to tell you how you're coming across.

This whole discussion is defending the right to insult people. So I find it hilarious that you're asking me to leave a discussion… for insulting people.

If you consider being called uneducated an insult, I'd think a lot harder about the subject matter

At the time, sure. But now? I'm a grown man. I don't pretend that people I don't even know cause me real pain. It's not, it's pantomime pain.

I think your talking about a different chant, I'm talking about the "let's have a party when Sol Campbell dies" one, how is that racist, homophobic or anti mental health?

Well I mean pain is a strong word but probably yes, I was quite young at the time and our captain who we'd bought through our academy fucked us over and lied to us to then go and join our arch rivals, we didn't even get a fee in a time when that money would've seriously helped us, and he knew that. It's a disingenuous oversimplification to say he just ran his contract down and you know it.

Also if you honestly think you can compare it to an employee leaving a company then you simply don't understand football. If you want to compare it to something then it's like a son leaving his dads company to join the company of the man who his wife ran away with, whilst the dads company struggles with administration and the son still acts like he did nothing wrong.

So in conclusion, yes I can blame him

Earlier you labelled anyone singing the 'you're fucking shit' song a twat...is that an insult?
Hope you can hear this question from up there on your high horse.

I'm defending the right to call another football team shit, which seems to upset your sensitive little soul, I'm not insulting fellow Spurs fans like you are.

You know the one I mean. But cool, a party when Sol Campbell dies is just immature, unnecessary and nasty. A bit like the modern world, then.

No, I very much understand football. It's why this stuff doesn't affect me. It's business. More fool you for thinking otherwise. But get upset about a guy you've never met doing something decades ago that had very little direct effect on you. God forbid anything really bad actually happening
