The one plus side to having dirty oil money is you could just write this sort of shit off and leave them in the reserves for a couple of seasons at the height of their career.

It might just be me (high possibility), but he looked totally disinterested imho, I also thought it telling that Vorm was given the captains armband, really thought that would be on Toby's arm? I just think there is more to it than off performances, and lack of match fitness...
Disagree. He was trying to rally the defence and telling others what to do. I don't think he feels that comfortable on the left and he was slipping all over the place, which maybe made hm a bit cautious?

I still think selling Toby is a bad move, as good as Foyth looks as a prospect he does have a tendency to go walk about and is clearly not 100% on his positioning yet. This will come but he is going to need to bulk up massively before he starts in the league let alone CL. The fact that at half time Toby and Foyth swapped sides is not a good sign for ether player and Toby obviously struggled playing alongside him. Saying that, Toby does have an incredible understanding with Jan and if we sold him we would be loosing a world top 10 CD, and brake up a world class partnership. that’s not something one does lightly. We would also have to go back into th market to replace him which is going to be really hard even if looking for a back up. If we want to win things we can’t sell our best players when they are at their peak, not unless the replacement is an upgrade which is almost impossible.
Most other clubs would die for a central partnership like that. With Toby at his fittest, and playing with Jan, we are fortress Tottenham.

Can anyone tell me when Toby suffered injuries last season and the season before that before how long was he reintroduced into the 1st team. Both were serious injuries too from what I recall. Out for a couple months

Toby was below par at Rochdale but i would still bring him back now, in a back five. That's when we are at our most solid.

This all makes the signing of Sanchez look like a brilliant bit of forward thinking business.

The fact we splashed out so much money on him made me think a little bit that we were planning then for Alderweireld leaving. It was such an unspurslike thing to do. A club transfer record being paid for a centreback. That’s never happened before has it?

In his book, Poch explains the Walker situation. If Toby has behaved in a similar way then rightly or wrongly he will be gone. It’s a shame thatsall you have to do under Poch to force a move but if your not committed under him then there’s no point keeping a player around. We demand 100% nowadays.

Everyone was below par against Rochdale, that's how the bottom team of league one were able to put two past us, and we needed another late Kane pen to save us. No one took it serious enough.

Different kettle of fish when he starts on Saturday.

Technically we didn’t need a Kane pen to save us because that took us 2-1 up.

Thereby saving us the ignominy of drawing against said bottom of league one team? The point being that theres no value in singling out Toby as disinterested in that particular match, and using that as a reason to deduce that there is a problem.

Always the way though.

Player had a suppose problem then has a bad game = doesn’t look interested.

Just plain silliness by posters looking into something too much.

There is a problem, ITK have confirmed he’s been messing us about over his contract and is still doing so.

Could we give him a larger contract with a realise clause that activates after a season?

That way we get Jan and Toby for the first season of our new stadium, Toby gets paid more dough in the short-term and if a club wants to put down £60m or £70m to prise him away, we get a hefty fee to spend on a young replacement (or two!). Plus, Toby gets his final pay-day if he leaves and possibly a chance to win a league or European Cup...

...although I reckon he can do this at Spurs ;)

I would assume that this is what DL wants a larger buy out clause but I also assume Toby or his agents want a lower sell out clause. Similar to what he has now ie :£25m. Plus it appears he also wants a far higher wage as it may be his last chance of securing a nest egg for when he has to hang up his boots.
All IMHO of course.

Need to get in De Ligt sharpish. Also like the idea of Lascelles, Toon's best player imo by a country mile. If Toby wants to go then in the end he will, whether by running his contract down or stamping his feet and upsetting Poch. Sanchez looks hugely promising, but if Alders goes, Dier or CCV being part of a back 3 or 4 doesn't fill me with confidence.
