Let's All Laugh At... Let's All Laugh At West Ham

West Ham fans have been bringing their collective intelligence to the fact that the big clubs avoided each other in both the Carabao Cup QF draw and the FA Cup QF draw...

"A boffin told me it was 36/1 for the QF draw. For both to turn out that way is 36x36 I presume =1296/1.

(there's a 99% chance that this is wrong...)"

Actually, there's a 100% chance that's wrong. Obviously, a West Ham fan's definition of what constitutes a boffin may not necessarily be the same as ours.

Anyway, a slightly more numerate poster sets him right with the following example

"The odds of the 'top four' avoiding each other are just under 23%. Four-sevenths multiplied by three-fifths multiplied by two-thirds multiplied by one. However, if you then ask what's the chance of this happening in both the FA Cup and League Cup (or whatever the **** it's called this week), the answer is slightly over five percent.

To do this experiment at home, take one six-shooter. Load four of the six chambers and play a single round of Russian Roulette. Assuming you haven't decorated the wall behind you, then load a fifth chamber and play again. If you're still breathing, that's the same odds as the top clubs had of avoiding each other in both cup draws."

I'm loving the phrase "to do this experiment at home". There may just be a few more white seats at the OS next home game...

Anyway, it all proves too much to bear for one poster who decides, purely on the basis that something that should only happen rarely has, err, happened rarely, that everything is fixed.

"Don't anybody ever say again, I want us to have a good run in the cup, coz we never will. It is an absolute ****ing fix and a complete stitch up for anybody other than the top clubs."

And there you have it. The reason that West Ham never progress far in the FA Cup is because it's fixed. Not because they're shite, mind. But because it's all fixed.

Oh, for those who have forgotten, this year the FA fixed the draw by having West Ham play Shrewsbury Town (West Ham won in extra time of the replay) and Wigan Athletic (lost 2-0). The fucking fixing bastards.
