Why are we so concerned with Dele Alli and diving?

Another weekend, another debate about Dele Alli taking a tumble in the penalty box.

Rinse, repeat.

Love Dele he is a great player but he needs to cut out the diving. It is a downside to his game.

The one I don’t get is Vardy. The master of initiating contact by falling over then sticking his leg out so it hits the defenders. He’s English too, will be going to the World Cup, but no one has any issue with him at all seemingly. There aren’t op eds on top of op eds calling him a diver. He was cheered to the premier league title as he dived, dusted himself down and netted penalty after penalty.

Because Leicester aren't a threat to the SKY cabal(y)

Vardy's diving was flagged as an issue just before the one time he got done and got a second booking for it. Been remarkably quiet since even though he's continued in the same way.

I obviously know the Norwegian studio better than Sky or BT but they usually flag up Vardy's diving, leg-throwing antics whenever it happens and have a word at it. A shame that the PFM of the UK don't care.

To repeat what I've said before, if Messi fell over every time he felt the slightest bit of contact he wouldn't be a fraction of the player he has been. Because he stays on his feet and backs himself he's unplayable a lot of the time. Dele doesn't back himself enough and goes for the soft option and he's been called out for it. Needs a change of mindset and he'll go up another level.

Interesting

I looked at his stats and according to Transfermkt, he's won as many penalties this season already as he did in their premier league-winning season (6) but he seemingly didn't win any last season.

What happened, Jamie!?

Dele has all the ability and talent to make it all the way to the very top of the game. But I just don't like diving, or even taking an easy tumble. Especially when you're that good.

To me we should treat everyone the same. He seems to be highlighted much more than other players who do the same

He’s just not very good at diving. He either wins legitimate penalties by going down with enough contact or stay on your feet. But he goes early and it just looks shit, taking away any element of doubt and casting a shadow on our deserved results. I don’t want to be talking about this kind of stuff constantly, it would be nice to focus on the positive stuff.

He's just a bit of a ponce sometimes. Which isn't unique to his profession in the slightest. We just don't get them at Spurs very often. Ginola remains one of my all time favourites, but he was a right tart at times.

I bet Dele Alli is one of the most fouled players. He's always getting swiped mainly coz he plays cheeky ie nut megs and pure skill

Sadly in the U.K we love to knock our young talent. Yes Alli has clearly dived at times, and been rightly booked for it.
Beckham used to get a lot of stick but overcame it. Faldo used to get stick about his moody manner vs Sandy Lyle who was a media darling for a short while. Muzza got beasted until he finally won a Grand Slam and an Olympic Gold. Alli isn't in their league yet, for sure, but he does have outstanding talent, it's just the media and rival fans want to crush him.
Hopefully Poch and the rest of the staff will guide him thru the shitstorm and witch hunt , and he will hit top form at the business end of the season.

I won't be surprised if Alli is the one the Talksport gammons all go mental about after we inevitably fail to win the World Cup. At least it'll mean Sterling will get a break from it, I guess...

He isn't scoring so many this season - that is the real problem. His main contribution is the penalties.
If the media had some more goals to talk about, then the focus would be less on how easily he goes down in the box.

Ginola and Klinsmann got accused of it all the time. Yet they're not exactly remembered that. I'm just surprised he doesn't do the Klinsmann dive celebration.

If he wins a penalty at the World Cup nobody in England is going to care.

I’m confused it was a blatant foul at Rochdale how did he did dive? The Rochdale player made no contact with the ball.

We aren't concerned, but people may have been confused by the constant drone of Liverpool fans crying. I went to visit a friend, who's a Liverpool fan. As soon as I walked in, he said, "I've made sure you don't fall over." I retorted, "Why, was the floor wet from your tears?"

Until everyone else stops doing it, he can dive as much as he likes.
