I know I’ll get horribly shot down for this. And this opinion isn’t just based on today. Probably seen Skipp play 5-10 times and can only remember 1 game I was really impressed think It was Dortmund or Real Madrid this year. I know he is very highly regarded but I’m struggling to see it. For sure there’s lots of endeavour. But I feel he’s going end up a bit of a Mark noble type player. Hopefully be a bit more Scott Parker but that’s how I see him. Obviously he’s only 17 but I’m really not seeing the hype right now. Loooking forward to being proved wrong though.
He’s not particularly quick or powerful, that’s for sure, but he plays with real competiveness and maturity. If he’s going to make it, it’s because he’ll be a player that managers can trust.

But he always looks so good going forward, seems wasted in a wing back role?

I think he also sees the possibility of being a LWB or atleast improving his defensive side in the future.

Keanan Bennetts

On his two assists from left-back

“The assists were good. Going forward I always find it easier. Defensively I think I should have done better today but with the transition of positons, wherever the manager puts me I need to play to the best of my ability. Whenever I’m playing at left-back I think I need to defend better but obviously attacking-wise I’m always confident on the ball so I expect that of myself. In football you’ve got to be adaptable, so being able to play in different positions only benefits you. It’s a way to develop further.”

He's a very good runner from deep, if he could develop as a LWB/LB he'd IMO have an easier time breaking into the 1st team than being a AM/LM. With the amount of attacking options we have on the left, he'd struggle to displace the current players.

I don't blame you for feeling this way because it's essentially how I feel about TOB and Maghoma. I certainly think that Skipp's form has dropped, but at his peak (earlier in the season) he was absolutely incredible. He was running the midfield in nearly every game he played at every level, getting a foot in, moving the ball quickly, showing wonderful close control and an impressive passing range.

Skipp seems to be always be playing whenever I see the team-sheets posted. Remember how young he is as well, he is playing up a level effectively. Maybe with these two things in mind he's just running out of steam a little as we get into the final bit of the season. Understandable if so, and not just for him.

As for the Bennetts LB/LW approach, I think it depends on how he transitions to adult football. To play further forward, especially in our systems, only my opinion but you have to be able to move laterally and pop up across the pitch, if they remain more of a 'straight lines' player I prefer them to focus on being a wingback where those type of players will get more joy. Happened with Rose and Fredericks for instance.

In regards to Maghoma I’ve always been quite optimistic. But starting to wonder if it’s his physical advantage that’s made him look better than he actually is. Today he really looked quite average against boys his own size. But it feels harsh judging these kids on a dodgy game. I’m sure it’s natural to have ups and downs. I guess the coaches can see through that. And just a shout out to scotty Parker doing a fantastic job.

Gutted I missed and forgot to record the game. Will have to search t'internet for a replay, anyone have any idea where it might be shown?

Here's where I disagree, sorry.

Look at major recent footballing nations such as France, Italy, Spain, Germany etc.

While no doubt there's a huge amount of technical ability, nearly all their players have also been mentally and physically tough - apart from Ozil...

Passion + commitment + technique = world class... usually.
I agree with you, I meant specifically coming through in England talent is ignored for those who put themselves about.

Other countries have the balance a lot better

Bennets looks brilliant whenever I watch him - could he push for a first team squad place next season?
I think we know the answer for that despite his performances this season.

Where does our left back usually play.looks a fish out of water out there.be shocked if thats his natural position.
As Spurzinho said he's a CM/AM but he has done a decent job at LB this season, though he looked out of place at the weekend against Arsenal. I don't know why Brown didn't start though. We really have a quality squad especially with Tanganga on the bench for some reason.

Didn't watch this game but it always seems Austin does well in goal whenever I check the game feeds. Any of you lot reckon he could have a future with us? Would love an academy product to become our number 1 when Hugo decides to call it a day.
Hard to judge keepers. He is very steady and has saved us quite a few times but all young keepers are prone to mistakes, which need to ironed out, but i I think he is good, as is Whiteman. I would also love a keeper to come through.

I didn't realise that Brandon Austin is Anglo American like Cameron Carter-Vickers. Both have Dad's who were professional basketball players.
I think we all found out when we played in the IMG Cup after they first found out about CCV. But never known what the link is who is his dad?

Seen him score that exact same goal about 5 times this season.
I'm so pleased for Bennetts. At u16s he was a real talent, and I was really looking forward to seeing him in our academy and develop. Check this goal he scored for England u16s in the Montaigu final. I remember my reaction being gobsmacked at the time at the skill he pulled off under pressure, now he seems to be doing that more regularly.

He has always had it in him, but then he really lost his confidence in his first year, but since has been on a an upward trajectory and is showing his skills and creating goals out of nothing. Still not sure about him as a LB

Come on mate, literally 2 months ago, bare in mind he would have probably only played 1/2 games televised max in that time, you said
"I actually think the younger from U19 down are the most exciting Skipp Paris Maghoma Lloyd bennet etc."

You also put Onomah behind Skipp in the pecking order and called him a Dier/Winks lovechild.

I just replied to you in the Marcus Edwards thread where I speak about Skipp (having not seen this post, I promise!)

OK, just finished watching the game. That's a really poor pitch. First 20 and last 15 we were pretty poor. The second 25 minutes of the first half was pretty even, scrappy affair. The best spell of the game was that 30 minutes after halt time when we were well on top and actually played some decent football.

Looked like we were playing some kind of 4141 ? Nobody was really outstanding, and with the exception of a good individual goal by Bennetts, our play in their third was generally lacking some craft and composure. When Shashoua came on it improved a little, but I don't understand why Roles was taken off and not TOB, who'd really not contributed much to the game at all, whereas Roles was more involved and also links well and is quite composed in forward situations.

I remain very non plussed by Sterling. He's a worker bee, and he does get lively around the box if he gets a sniff, but lacks a bit of finesse and his hold up play leaves a lot to be desired. There was a point on about 68 minutes where he held it up and laid it off and the commentator said "Sterling's held the ball up really well all game" and I thought it seemed like the first time he'd held it up all game. The rest of the time he was doing little flicks to no one or getting striped.

Eyoma looks much better as a CB than a RB. Don't understand why Brown didn't play at LB, Reynolds looked a bit meh? Don't really understand why we didn't play a 433, or even have Tanganga and go 3421 with Roles and Shashoua/Benetts behind Sterling, with Hinds and Brown as WB's?

Skipp was a busy fucker as usual, but his use of the ball was a bit unreliable today.

One player who continued his run of "always playing well when BC is watching" was Austin. I'm officially making him my most promising academy keeper ever.

Funny how quickly things can change - in a couple of seasons, we've gone from THE club who give youth players a chance, to a club who don't.

I know Poch said the criteria and standard to play has increased since he first came in, but the kids aren't getting a look-in despite piss poor performances from some players in the first team, Llorente, Sissoko, N'Koudou etc...

I don't see what Leipzig would get out of this. They are a rich team who have a great policy of buying good young players for a reasonable price and massively increasing their value, why would they want to do that for other teams?

Personally, I think they only took Lookman on loan as to ease the burden that has fallen on Bruma after Forsberg's injury.

Yeah I can’t see it for the reasons you’ve mentioned

He was absolutely outstanding on Saturday against Arsenal. He ran the entire game from centre half against more than decent opposition.

TOB and Maghoma are floaters for me. Both have high skillsets and I bet they look great in training but games can go past them. Still not sure what TOB's position is!

i can remember that we had a feeder club in netherlands and we wanted to send kwp there on loan but he rejected due to the playing style of that team
hope we can find a feeder club which plays similar style of football to us

I feel like it was Roda JC, but that the agreement went to shit. Could be wrong.

But if you compare to the beginning of Poch's reign to now, the quality of the first team squad is so much higher, pluse we're competing higher up the table. It is somewhat understandable that we're seeing less opportunities, even if for those of us in here that isn't desirable.

Worth noting too now, that the combination of players returning to fitness and signings like Lucas make it increasingly difficult for players to be able to break through. Our squad is deep and talented. And across many positions we don't have clear first choice players and clear back-ups. There are lots of games, but they've got to be shared out to the squad players before there can be opportunities for the youth players.

That said, you'd hope that if one of the younger players was showing in training that he deserved a chance, he'd be given the opportunity. We'll see.

I'm worried about the size of the squad, and the futures for these players.
