Yeah but we took Rohan Ricketts from them, so who’s really embarrassed?

Either you are very young, very naive, or never go to away games?

Football supporting is an escapism for many people, that is just how it is. Some people have brought up education or class in this thread. Education and class have NOTHING to do with this.

You can be certain well educated doctors and lawyers and the like have chanted things in football grounds, or behaved like fucking idiots generally during a game - or outside a ground. In fact, I am certain, because I have been guilty of this myself.

I had a row with a few Palace fans last year when I was travelling back home to South London. They dug me out for heading back South. I said things to them out of pure emotion at the time. I probably regretted it afterwards.

But hey, football to me is purely and UTTERLY about emotion. I love football because of the emotion it drives in me.

I am 32 and have generally suffered ‘banter’ and abuse from my mates over football when we have been shit, or ‘Spursy’. It fucking pains me. Chelsea nicking our CL spot made me not want to work for a week.

When we play Chelsea or Arsenal, they are all ****s to me. But it’s just football. It’s not actually real. My best man was a Chelsea fan, but we hate each other when football is involved.

Supporting a football team is not like anything else I can think of. It is tribal and almost ganglike - all driven by the pain, emotion and joy you have all experienced together over many years.

Sol Campbell is a total ****. He deserves abuse because he acted disgustingly towards OUR club. I say OUR club in a loose way, because I probably don’t see anyone who thinks ‘we’ should be over it as a fan.

You can just stand at an away game singing lovely little songs to ‘support’ our players. I will go to the game and for 90 odd minutes forget about anything else in my life and just live and breathe the emotion of football.

At the end of the day, if your emotions lead you places where you can't help but sing songs in the FA cup vs Rochdale about having a party when Sol dies then that's your prerogative I guess.

I personally don't think it is a matter of education or social class that separates those that do from those that don't. I do however think it is a pretty unclassy way to act. I am not devoid of emotions when it comes to football and I concede that people act on their emotions in different ways.

Is it not possible however that people who sing songs about having a party when another human being dies gives us a bad name and therefore hurts our club too?

Singing 'you're fucking shit' to teams that we are far superior to and are comfortably beating shows a lack of class too and makes us, as a collective of supporters, look like a'holes.

Still going huh?
Yeah people are still outraged that we hurt the feelings of some people they don't know and will never meet.
Im trying to work out exactly when being a football fan became some sort of popularity contest between the clubs.
Anyone know where we are in the table in regards to this?

I’ve never been so embarrassed as a spurs fan of a spurs fan never being so embarrassed to be a spurs fan.

It’s Sol Campbell

If you REALLY are that embarrassed to be a spurs fan have you ever thought about following a less partisan sport like snooker or bowling?

Genuinely deluded. Maybe people don’t want to take the risk because he’s lied to or walked out of pretty much every club he’s been at. In turn this has probably had a knock on effect and is probably disrespected amongst managers.

Spurs - lied about staying and then joined major rivals for nothing.

Arsenal - left a match at half time. Also lied to Wenger about wanting to play abroad, so they let him go and he went to Portsmouth instead.

Portsmouth - sued them for loss of wages even though they were going under at the time.

Notts county - walked out of the club after one game.

Newcastle - he was just shit.

So there you have it. Aggro wherever he goes. Add a pinch of arrogance, a dash of ****iness and a tablespoon of delusion, that’s why some clubs may not fancy him. If he has a pet fish, then he’s not even the greatest footballing mind in his own household.

I'm surprised Talkshite haven't been in for him, to team him up with Adrian Durham.

Read this thread and then saw the latest news on the same day. I wouldn't say abusive things about Sol like the song but he really does not cover himself in much glory and seems to act like a person who wants to just be given everything with not much effort. He is as everyone else has said pretty delusional and a bit of a tit.

Everyone keeps mentioning "Being a football fan" and "emotions" and "banter" Sorry but as a HUMAN I wouldn't be able to sing that song as it's just not right.

But all of you that think it's okay (Ironically the same people that are totally against homophobic or racists chants) Then keep doing what you're doing  Again, it's you lot that find it okay who will start up threads in the future about how classless other clubs and fans are for the shit they do.

It's all banter and emotions until others do the same then we slam the for it.

I guess throwing a cup of piss at opposing supporters is banter aswell. Or not letting a black man on a train, it's just banter lol.

I've mentioned in this thread that I don't sing the Sol Campbell songs, I hate him, but he's not relevant, so I won't be wasting my breath on him.
The post you've quoted was aimed at the sensitive fans who think we shouldn't sing the 'you're fucking shit' song at other teams and their fans.
The piss thing is just wrong, and I take offence at your assumption that I consider racism as banter...so maybe you should read the fucking thread before mounting your high horse next time.(y)
